In this paranormal story from the Deep Kiss of Winter anthology, #1 New York Times best-selling author Kresley Cole delivers a breathtaking tale about a brutal vampire soldier who experiences love for the first time…and a Valkyrie aching to be touched.
Murdoch Wroth will stop at nothing to claim Daniela the Ice Maiden — the delicate Valkyrie who makes his heart beat for the first time in three hundred years. Yet the exquisite Danii is part ice fey, and her freezing skin can’t be touched by anyone but her own kind without inflicting pain beyond measure. Soon desperate for closeness, in an agony of frustration, Murdoch and Danii will do anything to have each other. Together, can they find the key that will finally allow them to slake the overwhelming desire burning between them?
“I was alive back then. And all the Lore heard about the ruthless warlord brothers from Estonia. The general, the scholar, the enigma, and . . . the manwhore.”
Ahhh, the sweet sounds of torture when you want something you can’t touch. I think this is my favorite of the two novellas in the series. Murdoch and Daniela were intense and I was completely insatiable over them when I was completely devouring this novella. Daniela is half Valkyrie half Ice Fey, who because of her Fey heritage cannot be touched at all, everyone that touches her that isn’t one of her kind makes it feel like she is being burned alive. Resigned to her fate to always be alone and untouched, Daniela doesn’t expect to find herself in the company of the great Murdoch Wroth, least of all being his bride.
I’m starting to realize that I have a thing for romances with anti-monogamous/anti-commitment alpha heroes who then falls head first in love and because monogamy’s number one supporter. 300 years as a vampire has made our once human playboy, Murdoch, a born again celibate; but the time has finally come for Murdoch and he has found his bride in Daniela–but the universe is a bitch and he can’t touch her. The irony had me maniacally laughing.
I loved watching these two navigate their relationship and learning what a relationship truly is. Kresley Cole makes nods to beloved characters of old as she intertwines new information about the Lore with the budding romance of our main characters just in time for Christmas.
