We finally have our first demon story! Up next in the Immortals After Dark series is Cadeon’s story in Dark Desires After Dusk. A forced proximity, forbiddin road trip romance that will have your toes curling; Kresley Cole brings out her A game and honestly with very few exceptions–I digged it.

RITA Award-winning author Kresley Cole continues her bestselling Immortals After Dark series with this electrifying tale of a ruthless demon mercenary and the lovely young halfling who enchants him.
A seductive beauty he can never have, yet can’t resist…
Cadeon Woede will stop at nothing to atone for the one wrong that will haunt him forever. But once he secures the key to his redemption, the halfling Holly Ashwin, Cade finds that the woman he thought he could use for his own ends and then forget haunts him as much as his past.
A tormented warrior she should fear, but can’t deny…
Raised as a human, Holly never knew that some frightening legends are real until she encounters a brutal demon who inexplicably guards her like a treasure. Thrust into a sensual new world of myth and power, with him as her protector, she begins to crave the demon’s wicked touch.
Surrender to dark desires…
Yet just when he earns Holly’s trust, will Cade be forced to betray the only woman who can sate his wildest needs — and claim his heart?
“You heard her, she’s already a creature with which one doesn’t fuck.”
A demon and a mathematician in one car–what could go wrong? The answer to this is everything–especially when said math wizard is pronounced the new vessel of the ascension and everyone wants her. Kresley Cole gives her readers another action filled romance in the Immortals After Dark series with Dark Desires After Dusk.
Finally, we are given Cadeon’s book after meeting him in Wicked Deed’s On A Winters Night. Not going to lie I got ridiculously excited when I was told during the IAD Bite Me discussion that the next book was Cade’s story, because oh my sweet baby Jesus was I so intrigued by his storyline. Cadeon is deep in the middle of an assumed forbidden romance as he believes his fated mate is a human (which doesn’t mix well with people of the Lore for obvious reasons). Resigned to watch from a distance, Cade finds himself shocked as shit to find out that not only is his fated mate not human, but also is the Vessel for the Ascension and he has been charged to take her to the highest bidder in order for his brother to take back the crown. Big yikes for Cade to say the least.
This book was such a fun and exciting read! Cade and Holly had me on the edge of my seat and swooning the entire time. I could barely put the book down once I started, the chemistry was dynamite from the get go, and only got stronger with the forced proximity that a road trip in a car can bring. I loved the OCD rep in this book and getting to see how Cole goes about integrating that within the Lore was something I really enjoyed.
Forced proximity is my kryptonite and as a road trip romance, we are given loads of it! Holly is given a crash course in everything Lore having grown up with human adoptive parents. I loved watching her take everything in stride and Cade making sure to equip her with fighting skills to make it on her own if she is ever put in such a situation. What I wasn’t crazy about was just how disgusting our villain, Groot, was. I understand that I’m not suppose to like him in the slightest and thats why he is the way he is, but hot potatoes y’all I could not for the life of me get behind that psycho, and with the plot point that I saw coming–I genuinely got taken out of the story for the first time. I also didn’t care for (and didn’t appreciate) the whole idea of “vessel” and it being another way that consent/choice is stripped from our heroine.
Overall though, this was a pretty spot on book and one I wouldn’t mind reading again! I have a deep overarching need to plunder some characters that I know we will see later on (looking at your Rhydstrom!) but I know when the time comes my mind will probably change. If you are looking for a fast paced paranormal road trip romance with some major kick ass–this is your book!
