Its buddy read Friday! This week Jamsu and I continued our journey through Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux universe with her second book, Onyx, and I think I liked it more the second time around then I did the first time?

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
SOMETHING WORSE THAN ARUM HAS COME TO TOWN
The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there’s this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that’s possible. Against all common sense, I’m falling for Daemon. Hard.
BUT THEN, EVERYTHING CHANGES
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
NO ONE IS WHO THEY SEEM. AND NOT EVERYONE WILL SURVIVE THE LIES.
“I always liked you. From the moment you first flipped me off.”
Onyx hit me right in the heart this week and was exactly what I needed while crocheting Sunday night. I binged the majority of this reread in one night, and I can confirm this book absolutely sucks you in. JLA doesn’t skimp on her usual sass and snark; and she absolutely delivers in the chemistry department with Katy and Daemon.
Anyone who has been on my blog long enough knows, I’m a fan of a good ‘work for it’ moment. I love when a main character really goes all out to get the person they want–and that is exactly what Daemon does in Onyx. Determined to show Katy that he is serious about her, he holds nothing back and I swoon every time I think about it.
We are introduced to a new set of fun characters and get to see growth in our long lasting friends from before. I took some issue this time around with Dee (Daemon’s sister) and how she responded to her grief, but it didn’t take me out of the story in any way so I didn’t mind it as much.
We are officially entering my favorite part of the series, and I am so excited to relive these next few books out again!
