WWW Wednesdays | November 6th

Happy Wednesday Storytellers! I’m super excited to be continuing WWW Wednesdays here on the blog as a way to saddle more of that bookish chit chat that I’ve missed having with you all! If you don’t know what WWW Wednesdays are–it’s a weekly meme hosted by Taking on a World of Words, in which you answer these three simple questions:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

The Memory Thief

Author: Lauren Mansy | Genre: Fantasy, YA | Publish date: October 1st 2019

The Memory ThiefIn the city of Craewick, memories reign. The power-obsessed ruler of the city, Madame, has cultivated a society in which memories are currency, citizens are divided by ability, and Gifted individuals can take memories from others through touch as they please.

Seventeen-year-old Etta Lark is desperate to live outside of the corrupt culture, but grapples with the guilt of an accident that has left her mother bedridden in the city’s asylum. When Madame threatens to put her mother up for auction, a Craewick practice in which a “criminal’s” memories are sold to the highest bidder before being killed, Etta will do whatever it takes to save her. Even if it means rejoining the Shadows, the rebel group she swore off in the wake of the accident years earlier.

To prove her allegiance to the Shadows and rescue her mother, Etta must steal a memorized map of the Maze, a formidable prison created by the bloodthirsty ruler of a neighboring Realm. So she sets out on a journey in which she faces startling attacks, unexpected romance, and, above all, her own past in order to set things right in her world.

November is ARC Mountian demolition month and this bad boy has been sitting prettily on my ARC shelf for a hot minute. Currently 20-ish percent in and I am actually really enjoying it! Fingers crossed that it keeps the same momentum!

All That Compels the Heart

Author: Erin Bowlen | Genre: Romance | Publish date: February 13th 2018

All That Compels the HeartAoife O’Reilly had the perfect life: her dream job working in a publishing house, a successful boyfriend, and the two best friends she could ever ask for. But, when tragedy strikes, she begins to feel like her life is unraveling. Seeking some sort of divine answer to what she should with her life she seemingly finds her answer in the charming village of Ballyclara, and in a bold move, Aoife uproots her cozy life in Dublin and moves to the Irish countryside.

Purchasing the long-abandoned Aldridge Manor, she throws herself into the task of renovating her new home with the help of local pub owners and contractors, Michal Flanagan and Brendan McCaffrey. While Aoife easily becomes friends with the other residents of Ballyclara, she finds herself perpetually at odds with Michael, who seems to have a deep dislike of her she cannot explain. But somewhere beneath his stubborn and irascible exterior, Aoife slowly uncovers a man she feels she may have misjudged at first, and who may have misjudged her. As the two try to find common ground, her old life begins to intrude, and she has to choose between her life in Dublin with her boyfriend, Danny, or the possibility of a new life here with Michael.

Just as Aoife finally finds peace with her choice, a career opportunity in New York presents itself and she is left with the question: will she choose to stay in Ireland? Or should she take the job in New York and leave everything behind?

This has been sitting on my Review Obligations list for a HOT minute and it’s needs be demolished (it was also on my last WWW from October–yikes). I really need to just buckle down and read it.

The Midnight Bride

The Midnight Bride (The Dead Lands, #2)

To save her family from a tyrant king, Mara of Aremond must win a tournament—and she won’t let anyone stop her from claiming the prize. Especially not Strax, the barbarian warrior who has tormented her every step of the way. But when a sorcerer’s trap binds them together, Mara must decide whether Strax is her greatest enemy, or if everything she seeks can only be found in the barbarian’s arms…

The audiobook version of this novella was originally featured on the Read Me Romance podcast. This release marks the first time this story is available in ebook or print, and includes a bonus epilogue and map not included in the podcast version.

One of my closest friends and fellow book blogger, Ruby @ Ruby’s books, hounded me Saturday morning to listen to this backlist title on the Read Me Romance Podcast. So, whilst cleaning I did, and OH MY GOD WHAT A TIME. I think I sat in the middle of my bedroom floor with my mouth all kinds of open saying “oh my god, this dude really did that.” and “oh my god when is he is just gonna screw her already?!”

Needless to say I was really here for this story and need to listen to Ruby more often.

The Grace Year

Author: Kim Liggett | Genre: Science Fiction, YA | Publish date: October 8th 2019

The Grace YearA speculative thriller in the vein of The Handmaid’s Tale and The Power. Optioned by Universal and Elizabeth Banks to be a major motion picture!

“A visceral, darkly haunting fever dream of a novel and an absolute page-turner. Liggett’s deeply suspenseful book brilliantly explores the high cost of a misogynistic world that denies women power and does it with a heart-in-your-throat, action-driven story that’s equal parts horror-laden fairy tale, survival story, romance, and resistance manifesto. I couldn’t stop reading.” – Libba Bray, New York Times bestselling author

Survive the year.

No one speaks of the grace year. It’s forbidden.

In Garner County, girls are told they have the power to lure grown men from their beds, to drive women mad with jealousy. They believe their very skin emits a powerful aphrodisiac, the potent essence of youth, of a girl on the edge of womanhood. That’s why they’re banished for their sixteenth year, to release their magic into the wild so they can return purified and ready for marriage. But not all of them will make it home alive.

Sixteen-year-old Tierney James dreams of a better life—a society that doesn’t pit friend against friend or woman against woman, but as her own grace year draws near, she quickly realizes that it’s not just the brutal elements they must fear. It’s not even the poachers in the woods, men who are waiting for a chance to grab one of the girls in order to make a fortune on the black market. Their greatest threat may very well be each other.

With sharp prose and gritty realism, The Grace Year examines the complex and sometimes twisted relationships between girls, the women they eventually become, and the difficult decisions they make in-between.

Back at it with another book that was yet again on my previous WWW. But this time I have the audiobook! So catch me flying through this one soon!

Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy

Author: Piper Rayne | Genre: Romance, Contemporary, Rom-com | Publish date: November 19th 2019

Demise of a Self-Centered Playboy (The Baileys #5)You might be wondering how you’ll know when your playboy ways are coming to an end. For some it might be an unexpected pregnancy (ahem… you know who), for others it might be finally landing the one woman you’ve always wanted (cough… I won’t mention any names). For me, it was the death of my mentor and the subsequent reading of their will.

The signs were there, they always are. But I didn’t notice them until it was too late, and my demise was complete.

Demise Sign #1 – You find yourself thrust into the land of responsibility and you don’t immediately hightail it out of town.

Demise Sign #2 – Despite being stuck with the world’s biggest Jekyll & Hyde, some sadistic part of you actually enjoys spending time with her.

Demise Sign #3 – Your family suddenly stops wanting to weigh in on every decision in your life.

Demise Sign #4 – Somehow you end up being the voice of reason in your tumultuous partnership.

Demise Sign #5 – You start thinking of other people before yourself.

Demise Sign #6 – You agree to put yourself in the middle of an Alaskan reality TV show that has both of you sleeping in the same tent.

Demise Complete.

Literally folks, it’s taking everything in me not to dump the books I’m currently reading and start this one. Piper Rayne is one of my favorite Romance authors and I know without a shadow of a doubt that my expectations for this next installment in the Bailey series is going to be knocked out the park. 10/10 would recommend.

I think I’ll continue reading books from my kindle app this week. I’ve already read two of them and DNF’d one. I already finished Badd Motherf*cker by Jasinda Wilder and Royal Baby Maker by Nora Flite this week.

I only recognized The Midnight Bride from those books you listed but unfortunately that’s another book I’ve DNF’d. I don’t remember why ATM but it wasn’t for me. But I’m glad you enjoyed it much better than I did.
