Mini-Reviews Monday #11 || Read Me Romance Edition

Mini-Reviews Monday is a monthly series in which I attempt to get caught up on reviews in bulk. These reviews are a highlight reel instead of an in-depth look into my time reading these novels. If you would like an in-depth version of my review, let me know in the comments!

When She’s Ready by Ruby Dixon

When She's ReadyGenres: Paranormal Romance,
Publisher: Independently Published
Publication Date: July 1st 2019
Source: Read Me Romance Podcast
Format: Audiobook

To get amnesty on a remote farm planet, ex-con Tassar has to marry an alien – specifically, a strange looking creature called a ‘human’. When he sees gorgeous, delicate Leilani, though, all of his plans change. He wants more than just a marriage of convenience. He wants her forever, but only when she’s ready.

I think it is safe to say my entrance into Paranormal romance was a great one.

Ruby Dixon offered up a mind blowing novella for the Read Me Romance podcast and I literally swooned from ear to ear the entire time I was listening. It has been forever since I blushed so hard from steaminess that I had to pull over in my car and finish the chapters. Tessar and Leilani have an instant chemistry that you can’t help but get behind, and the way Tessar respects Leilani to wait until she is ready for any form of intimacy had me on a whole other level of hot and bothered. With that said, I will be binge reading Dixon’s work in the very near future!

Balls Out by Avery Flynn

Balls OutGenres: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Independently Published
Publication Date: July 8th 2019
Source: Read Me Romance Podcast
Format: Audiobook

What happens when a woman who despises baseball—and one retired big leaguer who put a ring on it in particular—has to infiltrate a fantasy baseball camp so she can serve the louse with divorce papers?

Ruby Sue is literally my favorite character in this and anyone else who says otherwise can fight me. I actually really enjoyed this one from the Read Me Romance Podcast; swoon worthy, romantic and cute, I couldn’t stop smiling at the length our hero went to convince his wife to stay with him and the length our heroine went to get the divorce. Their chemistry is undeniable, but I do kind of wish there was a little bit more steam between the two just to make things extra saucy, but I was content with what I was given!

As this was my first time reading/listening to Flynn’s work, I super intrigued to read more from her! Fingers crossed I enjoy them as much as I did this one!

Switch Bidder by Sara Ney

Switch BidderGenres: Contemporary Romance
Publisher: Independently Published
Publication Date: June 27th 2019
Source: Read Me Romance Podcast
Format: Audiobook / eARC

Piper has been crushing on Ryder for years. What better chance to make her move than when he’s sacrificing himself to the squealing masses at a charity auction? Too bad she’d rather chug nails than actually bid on a guy who doesn’t know she exists. Or so she thinks…

In a twist of fate, Piper wins Ryder at the auction, but she never collects.
Now he’s determined to find out why.

Funny, light hearted, and irresitably cute–Switch Bidder is everything I look for in a Romance novella!

Sara Ney dishes out a new set of characters in this new Jock Hard series installment that revolves Piper, a super introverted and shy college student, and Ryder, a baseball player who has been Piper’s long time crush. When a charity auction win lands Piper the opportunity to finally get close to Ryder, she runs–however, Ryder isn’t going anywhere without a fight.

I love love LOVE this novella, and gobbled it up in one sitting. Originally published as an exclusive audiobook for the Read me Romance podcast (which is free and I highly recommend listening too!); Ney has published the finished copy of the short story and I am stupid excited to have this in my collection! Piper and Ryder had me laughing and swooning during my binge read/listen and I honestly wish there was more of them that I could get my hands on.

I honestly related to Piper on such a huge level in the short amount of time and I feel like if we ever got a novel size book from her perspective, my investment and connection with her would only grow.
The only problem I had with the book was how almost abrupt the ending was. Left on a slight cliffhanger which had me immediately taken out of my swoon fest to ask “really? That’s how it ends?!” For that reason and that reason alone, I did deduct half a star, as the abruptness threw off the pacing and made the ending feel rushed when it didn’t need to be.

Here is to hoping that we get more soon!

I’m in the middle of Balls Out! I love the writing but I’m struggling a little with the gal narrating 😭 I’ve heard nothing but good things about Ruby Dixon!

I was the exact opposite! I didn’t mind the gal narrating, but the guy wasn’t cutting it for me, lol! I am glad you are liking the writing though!
