Marvel-A-Thon TBR

honestly im coolWell hello there!
So if you don’t know already Jamieson from Jamishelves has created and is hosting her own Marvel Universe inspired read-a-thon for the month of June! And if you didn’t know already, Marvel just happens to run through my blood so I couldn’t just not participate in this read-a-thon; like seriously, it would be like someone turning down oxygen.
You can find her announcement post HERE, but to sum it all up the read-a-thon will take place for the entire month of June and will consist of three phases, each phase will have four challenges, and you cannot move unto the next phase (or a challenge in a different phase) until you have completed the phase you are currently in.
I’m probably explaining this horribly, so if you are even the slightest bit interested go check out Jamieson’s post because she does an absolutely way better job at explaining this than I ever could!
But without further ado here is my TBR for the Marvel-A-Thon!

U5dqnYndKb89RJVchhQFZB6hgai85B5_1680x8400Phase One

Iron Man: Iron Man started the MCU timeline – Read the first book in a series
This is probably going to be the easiest challenge out of all of them I think, which somehow makes it the hardest to choose because I have so many options! I think I am leaning towards reading Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi but I am definitely a mood reader so Red Queen, Shadow and Bone, or a random sports romance are definitely options for this one. We shall see!

Hulk: Bruce Banner is famous for his green alter-ego. Read a book with a green cover

For this one I think I will want to read A Gentleman’s Guide To Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee. I recently got the audiobook for it because I heard it was absolutely phenomenal so I’m excited to delve into this world and also it’s been on my TBR for heaven’s knows how long.

Iron Man 2: Iron Man 2 is one of Marvel’s most unpopular movies. Read a book that’s unpopular

So for this challenge I decided to define unpopular as a book that hasn’t gotten a crap ton of hype, so basically a book that has less than 2,000 ratings on Goodreads. With this in mind I have decided to go with One Baby Daddy by Meghan Quinn. This book currently sits on my TBR shelf and also only has 889 ratings on Goodreads (as of May 26th).

Thor: The Thor movies are based on Norse Mythology. Read a book that involved myth or mythology.

For this one I have to go with Circe by Madeline Miller. I’ve heard only amazing things about this book and everyone on Book Twitter was raving about it non stop. So I thought what else would be great than to curve my curiosity and knock out a challenge at the same time?

Captain America: Captain America is set during WW2. Read a book set or written in World War Two

Oh geez, I don’t really like historical fiction…like at all. So this one I have a feeling I’m going to use one of my passes on, but in the efforts of being a perfectionist I have done some extensive research and have decided upon Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich. This one is a stage play so the script is little over a hundred pages, thus a really good readathon size book–and let’s be honest, I just really hate historical/classical literature (except Outlander).

The Avengers: The Avengers is the first time we see the MCU heroes together. Read a book with multiple perspectives.

This one is super easy because basically all of my romance novels have dual POVs! So for this one I will most likely be reading one of my many romance novels, most likely the Unexpected Love Story by Natasha Madison.

Phase Two

Iron Man 3: Tony Stark has to make some hard decisions in this movie. Read a book that will challenge you

For this one I decided to define challenge as a non-fiction/get-your-crap-together kind of book. With that said I’m going to go with The Self-Esteem Workbook by Glenn R. Schiraldi. I mean the title of this book is pretty self-explanatory–ya girl is trying to be better.

Dark World: In The Dark World, Thor has to team up with Loki to win. Read a book that involves siblings.

This one I kind have a hard time finding a book that involves siblings but after copious amounts of searching I think I have landed on Sam and Isla’s Last Hurrah by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan.

Winter Soldier: In The Winter Soldier a character returns as a villain. Read a book where the main character is a villain or anti-hero

For this one I have two options: Vicious by V.E. Schwab or Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I am leaning more towards Vicious, because I haven’t finished The Grisha Trilogy and I hear I will enjoy Six of Crows more if I have read the Grisha Trilogy first.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Guardians of the Galaxy is well-known for it’s soundtrack. Read a book set in, written in, or involving the 80’s

You’re killing me smalls. Again, I will probably use one of my passes; but again, here is me being a perfectionist. For the sake of the TBR I have chosen the Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth, solely because it’s the only thing on my TBR that I know takes place in the 80s and I’m not that invested to go hunt for something else.

Age of Ultron: The villain of Age Of Ultron is a robot created by Tony Stark. Read a book involving an AI in some way

For this one I chose Gemina by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, however I also have Cinder by Marissa Meyers just in case I’m in the mood for something else!

Ant-Man: In Ant-Man, Scott involuntarily gets caught up in a heist. Read a book involving a heist or thieves.

This one was hard to choose from because I have read a lot of books that involve heist/thieves or have to read other books before I can get to that specific book, i.e. Six of Crows. So for this challenge I am going to go with The Gift of The Magi by Ally Carter which is the only Heist Society novella that I haven’t read yet.

Phase Three

Civil War: The Avengers split into two teams after disagreements. Read a book about a rivalry or enemies

For this one I am going to read the next installment of Fence which is a graphic novel by C.S. Pacat. I am all caught up currently, and the next installment is supposed to publish on June 20th so fingers crossed I’ll be on phase three by then!

Doctor Strange: Stephen Strange was a doctor before he was a hero. Read a book that involves medicine in some way

I will most likely read one of the many medical romances I have on my TBR such as Within These Walls by J.L. Berg.

GOTG: Volume 2: Volume Two shows even more epic space battles. Read a book set in or involving space

Have I ever mentioned how much I love space? Cause I do! Growing up I wanted to work for NASA in some capacity in hopes that I would get exclusive trips to Jupiter (which was my favorite planet at the time). So to say I’m excited for this challenge would be an understatement! With that said, I choose Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff.

Spider-Man: Peter Parker has to hide his superhero identity at school. Read a YA book involving secrets in some way

HA! This is like every YA fantasy novel, so I’m definitely going to have fun with this! Scythe by Neal Shusterman will be my choice for this one!

Thor: Ragnarok: Thor: Ragnarok is one of Marvel’s most popular movies. Read a popular book

For this one I choose Harry Potter and Cursed Child the Screenplay. Because it’s Potter…and he’s popular.

Infinity War: “the most ambitious crossover event in history”. Read a book that fulfills multiple challenges

I have so many for this challenge! But I think I am going to go with Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo which covers the book with a secret challenge, and book with a female MC.

Black Panther: Black Panther features Marvel’s first black superhero. Read a ownvoices book with a black main character

For this one I have two options (like I always do) which are: The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton and Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann. However, I feel like I’m leaning more towards The Belles just because I’m going to Dhonielle in June again for her book tour.

Captain Marvel: This movie will feature Marvel’s first female hero as the main character. Read a book with a female mc

For this one I’m going to choose To Kill A kingdom by Alexandra Christo!

The Avengers 4: Details of this movie including it’s title are still a secret. Read a book you don’t know anything about

This one is going to be super fun because I choose The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde. Literally got it because the cover is hella pretty, now I shall refuse to read the summary just so I wont know what this book is about!

And that’s my TBR! I’m super excited for this Read-A-thon and I can’t wait to share my progress with these books with you guys! If you can’t remember my tentative choices for the month-long readathon, here is a nice little recap I whipped up and will be referencing throughout the month of June!

Are you participating or have you read any of these books? how are they? Let me know in the comments!

UPDATE: I just realized my graphic doesn’t inclue the Brightsiders, so let’s pretend that it’s tacked on yeah?
