The Secret Life Of A Book Blogger Tag

I feel like I always do tags when I don’t get my original planned post done…But I guess that is the great thing about tags! The little nifty critters are here when you need ’em!

Big shout out and thank you to Destiny @ Howling Libraries for tagging me in this! If you haven’t checked her out yet, please go and rectify this situation immediately! She is honestly a gem!

1. How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging for a little over one year now! But I’ve been reviewing/apart of the bookish community for almost four or so years now as I started on Booktube!

2. At what point do you think you’ll stop blogging?

Not sure, I am currently really happy with my blogging life and the community within it  and all the amazing friends I have made within this wondrous community so I don’t think it will be any time soon!

3. What is the best thing about blogging?

I could totally be cliche and say the community (which is a 10/10 would recommend) but I think for me the best possible thing about blogging is that this is my little neck of the internet woods–I can rant and rave as much as I want and it will be okay, because this is my place. The feeling of catharses is amazing.

4. What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?

I think the worst part of blogging is the self imposed pressure– to read the recent reads, and talk about the popular topics at the time– of being current. The ways that I combat this is to constantly remind myself that this is my place and I should do/write what makes me happy and what I’m passionate about–not what I think others will want to see from me or to stay “trendy”.

5. How long does it take you to make/find pictures to use?

My graphic game has improved over the last 5 years of being in the bookish community! I typically use to find free photos to use in my graphics if I don’t create them myself and I have now been solely using canva and GIMP/Photoshop for editing and creating the images.

6. Who is your book crush?

LMAO who isn’t my bookish crush? Ya girl has a bookish crush academy where thousands of characters apply to be apart of my love fest but only a select few are accepted. Currently our Valedictorian is Rhysand from the ACOTAR series and Salutatorian is Aiden from the Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata.

7. What author would you like to have on your blog?

I would absolutely LOVE to have a guest post or to interview Mariana Zapata or Teagan Hunter on the blog. Those ladies have shaped my love of romance and romantic comedy in ways that I cannot even begin to express, so it would truly be an honor if I could have them here!

8. What do you wear when you write your blog posts?

Don’t tell my boss but I usually write my blog posts while I am on my lunch break in my office or if I get to work super early. So business attire. However, when I am home and on my own personal computer–PJs for days. I like to be comfy when the unicorns grant me inspiration for writing blog posts!

9. How long does it take you to prepare?

It really depends on the post! If it is a tag ( like this one) not long at all, but if it is some of my more research heavy posts like my Genre In Depth series or Hot Off the Press, then I take several hours to days (looking at you Science Fiction and Mystery) to get all the sources and materials I will need to make a cohesive and correct post.

10. How do you feel about the blogging community?

I think I agree with what Destiny said in her answer, just like in every community we are gonna have some bad apples. It’s inevitable. Some times we let the bad apples fester and spread, but majority of the time we educate and rectify the bad. Our community has its ups and downs and its pros and cons–however, even through all of it I would trade it for the world. The Blogging community is truly a gem and I love being apart of such a great, diverse, and dynamic community.

11. What do you think one should do to create a successful blog?

Be completely and utterly yourself. Don’t try to be like so and so because they may have more views/stats, or because you think Billy bob down the blog hopping way is cooler. There is no one like you and because of this the world needs and craves to hear your voice–your unique voice. So my thought of creating a successful blog, whatever that may be as success is hella subjective, is to be authentically you.

A-Z Book Tag

Happy Monday Storytellers!

I am in deep into the book reading/sneak reading at work (I think my slump is going away!) so while I am reading away and dodging my boss’ eye, I thought it would be fun to give y’all a tag since it’s been a super hot minute since I’ve done one!  Thank you so much to Bex @ Becca Leighanne for tagging me in this one forever ago (hoarding is real fam)!

Grab some popcorn, get comfy, and lets do the alphabet!

I actually have no clue and Goodreads sucks and removed the most read author data BUT if I sort my read shelf by author it looks like Jennifer L. Armentrout takes the cake with 34 books!

I was supposed to post my review for That Kind of Guy by Talia Hibbert today, but I’m still in the thick of it (hoping to finish it before noon! So expect my review to go up tomorrow!) so instead I thought it was only fitting to do a book tag from the amazing Destiny @ Howling Libraries who recommended Talia’s work to me a thousand times over! Thank you for tagging me in this Destiny as well as shoving Talia’s work my way!

1. F L 🌺 W E R S | look on your bookshelves. what is the most beautiful book both inside and out?

GoldenI feel like I says this every time I come across a question like this, but YOLO. Golden by Jessie Kirby is literally a stunning novel that captured my heart with both it’s cover and the story within the shimmering pages.

2. G R A S S 🌾 | what is a book that you find others like way more than you do?

City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments, #3)The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare. I feel like this is a high key unpopular opinion but I honestly don’t get the hype. Mind you though, I have only gotten to the fourth book, so it could be explosive later on in the series, but as of right now I can’t relate to the love.

3. ☔ R A I N | what’s a great book that lifts your spirits when you’re down?

Can't Text ThisI can feel all of you thinking to yourself “she is going to say Twilight” , and if you are you would be…WRONG. HA. I am jumping ship and going off brand and choosing the Texting series (because I literally can’t choose just one great book) by Teagan Hunter. This is a romantic comedy that is mainly told through–you guessed it–texting. Whenever I am down or just depressed, I like to flip through my favorite parts of this series, and without a doubt Hunter’s work ALWAYS gets me smiling and feeling better.

4. D E W 💧 | what’s a book that made you feel alive?

This Mortal Coil (This Mortal Coil #1)This Mortal Coil by Emily Suvada. You can click on the title to read my review for it, but hot damn was that story a complete roller coaster that made me feel all the things. It had been a long time that a book of that caliber made me feel some type of way, and wow–I was feeling A LOT of things.

5. S T 🌩 R M S | what’s a book that you found unpredictable?

It’s pretty hard to throw a twist on me that I don’t see coming. I have been told I have a sixth sense for plot twists, so this question is a tad harder to answer….yeah I don’t have one. But let me know in the comments of any books you think will throw me off my game!

6. R A I N B 🌈 W | what was a book that you struggled with, only to be happy that you read it in the end?

Outlander (Outlander #1)Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I think it’s common knowledge here on the blog that I do not like Historical Fiction. I have a problem relating to the characters, and I get upset like offset at how POC are treated with the authors using the lame ass excuse “its historically accurate”–yeah fam, it’s a no from me. Anyway, I took the plunge with Outlander when I was bored and unemployed after graduated and though it was a struggle to get through (praise the gods for audiobooks) I actually really fell in love with the story.

I know I am shocked too.

7. C H I L L Y ❄ W E A T H E R | what’s a book you couldn’t finish or didn’t enjoy?

Smitten by the Brit (Sometimes in Love, #2)The most recent DNF for me was Smitten by The Brit by Melonie Johnson. I honestly think, based off of other reviews I’ve seen for this new series–that this could just be a case of wrong reader. I had a lot of problems with the style and plot, which if you click on the title you can read my mini-review for it, but yeah…not a fun time I had with this puppy.

8. W A R M 🌞 W E A T H E R | what’s a book that you loved and wanted more of?

The Wall of Winnipeg and MeThe Wall of Winnipeg and Me by Mariana Zapata! I stay needing more Aiden and Vanessa time! Literally I would squeal and cry tears of joy if Zapata ever decides to write and release a short story of them just picking up groceries or taking out the trash.

I am literally trash for this couple. It’s fine.

9. G R E E N 💚 | what’s a book you haven’t read yet, but really want to?

Carry On (Simon Snow, #1)HA! Everything! But since I have to choose I think I will pick a back list read instead of an anticipated release, and for that I think I am going to choose Carry On by Rainbow Rowell! I really want to read this bad boy because I absolutely adored Fangirl and the snippets we got of Snow and Baz within that novel, so I am hoping to get to this before the next installment releases!

10. P 💗 N K | what’s a book in which you felt a strong connection to the characters?

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. I need not say anything more.
