We are back with another historical romance, the second one in the year! This week, the girls in KissAndLetMeTeleChat are talking about Amanda Quick’s 1995 medieval romance, Mystique. The amount of fun I had with this one could put the Texas ren-fair to shame. 💕😏

Another Amanda Quick novel under my belt, and I have to say I’m really enjoying her writing! Mystique is a medieval (lite) romance that follows Alice, an intelligent strong-willed woman who is determined to make sure her crippled brother has a life they were both denied at a young age, and Hugh, the Lord of Scarcliffe who is in need of a legendary green gem that was stolen from his keep, and a wife that will tend to his estate. Both find themselves paired together in search for this gem and in matrimony as deals are struck and love begins to brew between the two.

Y’all when I say I had so much fun reading this, I sincerely mean, I had SO MUCH fun reading this book. If it weren’t for work in the morning, I would have sat and read this in one sitting. There is just something about Quick and her writing that makes the story just flow in a way where you lose track of time. I loved getting to see Hugh and Alice’s relationship transform into this chaotic but beautiful coupling, and getting to see her brother flourish and find himself in the midst of it was an added bonus.

Though the ending was slightly predictable, this was the most fun I’ve had with a medieval romance in a long time. An easy read that isn’t hard to understand or slosh through. All around, just a great time. I thoroughly enjoyed myself with this one and can’t wait to discuss it with the ladies in tonight’s call.
