Well this was a wild ride compared to the first book in the series. Elizabeth Stephens is back with the sequel in her newest series, Supers In The City, and All Superheroes Need Photo-Ops brings the bonkers to a whole other level with these Alien Superheroes and their human love interests. But was the bonkers enough for even me?

After reading the first book with the ladies in Romance Revelry Society, I went into this one with a whole bunch of questions and a knowing I was going to get a fun time. While I got the fun time and was given a lot of answers to my questions from book 1, I left this book with even more questions? For context, Our MMC, Taranis, has the power to control electricity/lightning and as a rule he doesn’t give a flip about anyone but himself. Operating out of a “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” motto, Taranis is known to usually work with villains. Needing an image boost, our FMC Monika is recruited to be his main photographer during “missions” but things definitely don’t go to plan for either of them.

Usually I don’t mind a alpha-hole MMC, and can usually scrap the barrel to find something redeemable about them. But this dude right here, I just did not like at all. I could not for the life of me invest in him or his very tiny redemption arc with the FMC. Their chemistry was OK as it felt like we really only felt their connection when one or both of them were vying for each other (if you catch my drift). I didn’t really see that moment or transition when things started to become more for them, and I wish I did.

I did however, love the diversity in this—as usual Stephens hits it out of the park with her inclusivity. And I genuinely appreciated her diving deeper into the lore of the aliens. The audio narration for this was amazing and kept me in the story throughout its entirety, and for that it gets the 3.5x speed stamp of approval!

All in all though, this book just didn’t land all that well for me. It was still entertaining and I did have fun with the bonker-ness of the overall plot, but I couldn’t invest in our main cast as much as I should have, which is a bummer. I think I will give the next book a shot whenever it releases in hopes that this is just the sophomore blues, but truthfully it ain’t looking pretty for the Supers.
