I broke my “BREAK AND READ IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES” glass and finally read When Gracie Met The Grump by Mariana Zapata and I really can’t believe I lasted this long without this in my life, because this was everything I needed it to be in this moment. MZ left zero crumbs as she gently dives into the science fiction romance genre with this superhero grumpy/sunshine romance; and honestly–I’m here for it.

I finished this book in January and I literally haven’t stopped thinking about it since. I swear I probably have reread different scenes from this book so many times almost every night since finishing it that we could almost say I’ve read it twice now.
Mariana Zapata is the queen of slow burn, and this one is no different. However, what is different is the genre. Zapata gives us a superhero romance set in an alternate universe from the one she usually writes in (so all new characters!). Gracie, our FMC, is in hiding and on the verge of moving to her next destination, when quite literally the hottest thing on her side of the galaxy crash-lands on her lawn in need of help. Both Gracie and our resident hottie, Alex, are forced to work together after a series of seriously unfortunate events. There’s hurt/comfort, forced proximity, and a shipping crate full of sexual tension jammed packed into this book that only Zapata could deliver.
This was my break in case of emergency read, and what a pro move from Past Sam™ on that end because wow oh wow did I love everything about this book. It was just so easy to fall into the story and the characters. I didn’t have to think too hard, I wasn’t confused, and the world building was as simple as it was complex. I could very much be biased, but honestly guys this was a solid fiver for me.
