I could not do it, you guys. This felt like pulling teeth just to get to the halfway point and that was with me on 3.5x speed on the audiobook. This book was the absolute slowest most unproductive story I’ve read so far this year; and it pains me to say this. We are taken back to the shadow realm after Grace gets her memories back to go stop the bad guys from entering our world and save Smokey.
The characters begin to start blending with each other (at least for me) personality wise, and the plot points that were happening just didn’t make sense with what has previously happened in the series and where the characters are in their relationships. I didn’t care for any of the new characters and just wasn’t invested enough to push through any longer–which is a bummer because I made it this far.
I really do stand by my assessment that the series should have ended with Court and Charm be a novella/companion story.
This review is a complete mess, but I genuinely don’t have a cohesive thought about this story that makes sense. Just know this was not the vibe for me unfortunately.
I partially disagree. Yes, the first half was a bit boring, but it was necessary to establish the characters more. It sort of reminded me of all the boring parts in Harry Potter when the three main characters were hunting for Horcruxes. The second half was all action and suspense. The ending was satisfactory in that everything got wrapped up quite nicely. I can’t wait to read the entire series again. To me the first five books are on par with Harry Potter. The last book is not nearly as dramatic as HP’s last book, but so many things came to a nice conclusion.
