Another buddy read with the fabulous Jamsu, and I think we are finally hitting our stride! This week our book was The Wicked In Me by Suzanne Wright and I genuinely don’t know what took us so long to take the plunge with this story. A Fantasy romance that is reminiscent to the Dark In You Series but just a tad bit more…saucy.

Suzanne Wright is slowly becoming one of those fun authors that I can’t seem to get enough of. I was a bit hesitant to pick The Wicked In Me one up when Jamsu at Jamsudreams suggested we buddy read this–solely because I didn’t know how Wright would tackle a storyline outside of the demon side of PNR. But my worries were for naught, because hot damn on a pickled stick was this a bop and a half.
The Wicked In Me is just a downright fun read. I went in knowing not to expect amazing world building and over excessive prose as you might typically find in a lot of fantasy novels. But here Wright delivers a fun, fast paced story that is both hilariously sassy and down right intriguing all at the same time. Wynter is a witch who–after being dealt a horrific hand in life–is sentenced to banishment from her coven and only home she has ever known, just because her magic has gone dark. With a price on her head, Wynter and her crew of misfits she has found while on the run, find themselves in Devil’s Cradle-the one place none of her old coven want to set foot in–and in the hands of the Ancients themselves.
Honestly, Cain and Wynter were so entertaining to read about. Their chemistry was electrifying from the moment they met on page, and watching their relationship develop was something I took insane amounts of enjoyment out of. I loved getting to know more about the history of not only the ancients but also the different abilities Wynter and her crew have.
I fell in love with the supporting cast in this novel–especially Hattie! OMG–their loyalty and humor towards each other as well as to themselves is something I’ve noticed Wright makes a constant in her books; and I’m completely here for it.
The only thing that I didn’t much care for was the amount of times sentiments and thoughts were repeated throughout the story. After a while of getting the same line fed to you in different ways, it got a bit annoying and pulled me slightly out of the story. But something else would happen and pull me right back in, so I wasn’t too pressed with the issue.
Wright played her cards well with this first installment in her all new series, and I’m super excited to see how things play out in the next book in the series!

Hmm, okay you’ve interested me 😄. Rereading Black Dagger series (with my sister) and the Dark-Hunters series (by myself) I think I’m wanting more of these types of books lol. Easy fun! Also would never really think of Cain as a love interest lol
