Happy Thursday Storytellers and welcome back to another Bookending Autumn post! I’m playing catch up with our lovely host prompts today, and I am so excited for the one I’m about to waddle into!  If you don’t know what Bookending Autumn is, its a month long even in October that was created by myself and Clo @ Cuppa Clo where we aspire to bring the bookish community closer together through the platform we love the most–blogging! Each day we have different prompts from different hosts that participants can replicate! I am wickedly excited to check out everyone’s posts and prompts as we get more into the month as our hosts this year are dishing out quality content! You can catch me smiling from ear to ear as I get to meet all of you on your blogs and on our Twitter (@bookend_events if you haven’t followed, you totally should!) page!

Today, I will be waddling to Meeghan @ Meeghan Reads prompt that I’ve been swooning over ever since the announcement post!  If you haven’t already checked her content out and her original prompt–please do so…and then come back here! Meeghan is literally a 10/10 human being and I absolutely ADORE her!

Also don’t forget that we have a blog hopping masterlist! The list features all of our participants and those who are participating in Bookending Autumn can put their post links next to their name for easy blog hopping! Can’t wait to see all your amazing posts! And with that, let’s get into today’s prompt!

 Falling in love

Autumn is for walks in the brisk air, drinking lattes, wearing matching scarves and hats, jumping in piles of leaves… wait! Is this sounding a little tropey to you? Let’s talk about some of our fave (and not so fave) romance tropes.

Fake Relationship

This is probably my all time favorite romance trope. There is an inherent slow-burn to it that I don’t think you really get from the other tropes and it really enhances the dynamic of the hero and heroine in a way that has me giggling and grinning like a crazy person. Plus it takes the saying “fake it till you make it” to a whole new level.  I always have a good laugh when they say “I’ll never catch feelings, this is business.”

LMAO yeah buddy, just give it 200 pages.

Trope Recommendations:

The Wall of Winnipeg & Me | The Deal | Addicted To You | Four Day Fling

Office Romance

Ugh nothing like two employees falling hard and going at in the supply room…or the elevator.

I absolutely love office romances just because I feel like there is something slightly forbidden about it–especially the stories where the company has a strict dating within the work place policy. Those are simply ICONIC. Couple that with employer-employee romances? Ya girl is set for life.

Trope recommendations:

The Hating Game | Luna and the Lie | Love Sincerely Yours | The Billionaire’s Wake-Up Call Girl

Enemies to Lover

Okay, this one is tied right up there with Fake relationship–I LOVE ME A GOOD ENEMIES TO LOVER ROMANCE. I grovel for a good hate to love story and when the gods grant my wish and give me the goods–I can’t stop the binge. I absolutely adore the slow (or quick depending on the romance!) switch for the characters and that moment that happens where you realize…or really they realize…that they don’t really mind being in the others company.

Le swoon.

Trope Recommendations:

(yes…yes I did put The Hating Game twice…you should read it and be blessed)

A Court of Mist and Fury | The Hating Game | From Lukov With Love | Obsidian

Broody / Alpha-hole Hero

I love a good asshole in my romances. You know the ones I’m talking about–making you want to hit em where the good lord split em and then go out for a stiff margarita and think of your favorite Liam Neeson film.

Trope Recommendations:

The Contract | The Failing Hours | Faking Ms. Right  | Beautiful Bastard

I’m always a sucker for friends to lovers. But I also love fake relationships.

I love reading the answers for this prompt so much !! Many times, I get tropes I wouldn’t even thought of !!
And of course, other times I get recs 😉

While I do like some cockiness… i’m not quite all over to the top of the alpha male, atleast not for now XD Just a little, but not too much works for me.
The rest of the tropes you picked is an absolute “YAS” from me! xx

I know it’s not terribly feminist to admit, but I am a sucker for rich man/poor girl. Especially if he’s the boss, and he’s Mr Angry to everyone else except the girl! That’s why I love Jane Eyre so much 😍

Let me just swoon over those two for all eternity hehe, I sometimes find fake relationships embarrassing…well basically if the main character at all gets embarrassed (which lets be fair happens when the fake relationship trope is activated) then watch me squirm and get second hand embarrassment from it. Alpha males are fine in super smol doses for me haha otherwise I just wanna throw them at a brick will and leave them there.

I’ve heard about The Deal SO many times 😁 yess broody/alpha-hole hero is definitely one of my favourite tropes – especially if the love interest is snarky back to them!
