Becoming Hamilton || CAMP NANOWRIMO Week #3

Becoming Hamilton is an installment/series on Fictionally Sam, where I take the plunge in documenting my journey of writing a novel. New posts every Saturday of July, follow me as I attempt to write like I’m running out of time.

So this post went live before I woke up, so if you were one of the eleven that got to see this with my bare bones intro, lol you are welcome. For those of you who didn’t, YAY! You get to see a normal post that is proofread with an actual intro!

This week for camp went actually really well compared to the last two weeks, in the sense that I actually wrote something! I took a plunge in the extroverted/socializing pool and did what I normally evade and waddled into an authortube livestream…and I actually enjoyed it immensely?

I know I am shocked too.

I think the livestream is a good balance for me as a writer and with social anxiety, because I feel like I’m connecting with others about the thing I love to do–tell stories–but in a way where there is still a distance/barrier so that I can pull back when I get overwhelmed and not hurt anyone’s feelings. Overall, it’s a win-win situation!

Last check in, I asked you storytellers  what your 456th word in your WIP was, and I had a huge smile while reading your answers! As usual, here is my answer to last weeks question!

My 456th word is….out

so philosophical and deep 😂.

With that said let’s look at my daily thoughts earlier this week!

Saturday, July 13, 2019:

Words written: 291 | Total Word Count: 1,213

It wasn’t a lot of words, and I only wrote for like 30 minutes before I had to go to doctors but WORDS WERE WRITTEN!!! Much proud I am of me.

SMALL BUT THE WORDS ARE MIGHTY. I am finding myself comparing my zero draft to those already published and getting into that mindset of “well this isnt even close to being awesome like these guys, I might as well just stop” but I have to keep telling myself that this is the zero draft and is suppose to be a hot mess. Can’t get glammed without a blank face–and we are currently making the blank face.

All the errands and reading for Review obligations was done today, so I knew ahead of time I wasn’t going to be able to write today. Slowly learning to not beat myself up on this. If I write–I write, if I don’t–then that’s fine too. This shit is a process, and one I am super rusty on as it has been years since I have actually set down to write a novel again. With that said, I am re-learning to enjoy the process and the bumps that come with it!

Words written: 1,423 | Total Word Count: 3,030

I did it. I actually woke up at 4:50am to join the write-in livestream with BytheBrooke on youtube at 5am. Shockingly enough, I wasn’t upset like offset that I was up before Jesus; and also that I actually was super productive for the two-ish hours that I stayed with the live stream before having to get ready for work. I think the sprinting format really helped my wondering focus stay in one place, which I know many of you in the comments mentioned I try as a way to start writing (thank you!)–happy to report I am loving it!

I think I might just implement the Pomodoro technique into my writing sessions as I do at work and see if I get more words in that way!

I wrote 844 words this morning during the livestream and I have another one I am planning on participating in tonight, so hopefully I can get today’s words written to 2k? Fingers crossed!

Update: Didn’t make it to 2k words today, BUT I WAS HELLA CLOSE!

I did a bad joojoo and stopped writing at a complete scene. Now ya girl doesn’t know how to continue…shit.

I am realizing that I suck at writing on gym days when I see my PT. I am such a limp noodle after that all I do after is shower and go to sleep. What are words?
Plus, I’m still fucking stuck.

Queer Eye season 4 was released. That is really all you need to know about how my day went.
Also, still stuck. Yup.

And we are current! Check out today’s thoughts and progress on next Saturday’s check in! But until then…

Are you participating in Camp this month? If so, what is the first sentence of your WIP?

Ok so I’m not actively taking part in camp nano BUT you can have the first sentence of my WIP anyway haha.
“Being stuck between my bed and wall, was not how I planned this morning.” Think of that as you will, I promise you though it’s not as erm dirty as it sounds. If it’s put into its context *snorts*
As for being stuck, something I learned over the past 7ish years is when I’m stuck on a scene to just write what comes to mind. It doesn’t need to be perfect, or stay in your draft zero. I usually make another document for deleted scenes and lemme tell you, the document is a life saver because it allows me to write the stuff that’s bubbling away in my head. Whilst being able to throw them out of the main draft since I know it’s not what I want, eventually i get to a scene that I do want and I go from there. Though this is what works for me, so I’d say if you’re still stuck try writing whatever comes to mind. And try this out (I’d totally still count the words towards your word count tho xD)
And go you for writing all these words! Much proud of you I am <3
