She wants a fake relationship. He needs something real.
If there’s one thing Rae can’t stand, it’s pity. She’s forty, frazzled, and fed up—so attending an awards ceremony alonewhile her ex swans about with his new wife? Not an option. To avoid total humiliation, Rae needs a date of her own. And her young, hot-as-hell new best friend is the perfect candidate…
Zach Davis, king of casual hookups, has a secret: the notorious womaniser craves emotional connection, and anonymous encounters leave him feeling hollow. After years of performance, Zach’s desperate to be himself. So why does he agree to play Rae’s fake boyfriend? And why does it feel so easy?
When the line between pretence and desire blurs, Zach’s forced to face an unexpected truth: there’s nothing phoney about his need for Rae. But the jaded divorcée’s been hurt by playboy men before. Can a weekend of faking it prove that Zach’s for real?

“I should’ve known you all my life.”
“From now on.”
Wow. Literally that is all I have to say. Maybe, also, that I am in love?
This is my first book by this author and I ain’t even mad about it. More so upset that it took me this long to finally pick up one of her books. That Kind of Guy, is the final installment in the Ravenswood series and tells the story of Rae and Zach, both at different places in life where the secrets they keep and the hurts of the past that have changed them are demanding to come to light. When Rae is invited to a convention where he no-good ex-husband and his new wife will be attending, Rae is in desperate need for a fake date–or any date. Enter Zach Davis, Ravenswood’s notorious playboy and people pleaser with a secret.
Okay folks, can we take a moment to give a huge round of applause to Hibbert for creating such an amazing and real character such as Zach? Never in all my romance reading binges have I come across a male protagonist in which I felt so connected and seen through than with him. Zach is demisexual and has finally decided to live his truth instead of pretending to be something he is not, just because society deemed it to be so. As I am not demisexual, I cannot speak for how good the representation is within this novel, however I am so glad that it was placed in just because I learned so much. I could relate to many of the struggles that Zach went through as he came to grips with his own sexuality.
“His smile was a gorgeous kind of danger. No wonder so many people got lost in him. He was a bad boy fantasy with a dirty mouth and a bleeding heart.”
Rae is a writer who is determined to live by her own rules for the first time in her life; and let me tell you–I ADORE HER. Honestly, if I turn out to be like her when in the future, I think I would be able to take over the world. She is a boss! I absolutely adored getting to know her more and watching her reclaim her life little by little throughout this novel.
From witty banter, tender heart felt moments, and chemistry that is off the charts, this book left me yearning for more. Hibbert’s writing style is unique and one that will bring you in from the moment you turn to page one. I absolutely loved the pacing of this novel, and could not for the life of me put down the book (honestly got really mad when I had to put it down to do adulting).
With that said, I highly recommend this novel to anyone that is craving a raw contemporary romance that will leave you breathless and falling back in love with love again. Now excuse me as I back track to the other books in this series!
Great review, Sam! I’m glad that you found a book that you connected with so well!
Thank you!
I’m so happy that you loved this so much 😭😭💕💕
I WAS LEFT SPEECHLESS AND IN COMPLETE ADORATION.
