BOOKENDING SPRING 2019: A Blog’s Life

bookending springI am in deep with this slump life storytellers.

Today I was scheduled to post a review, however because I’m still deep within this slump I haven’t read the book yet. Truly a time. So I took my continued spiral into the hands of the reading slump gods to mean that I totally should do another Bookending Spring post! Today begins the reign of my partner in crime, Clo @ Book Dragons, as host! If you haven’t already, be sure to click on her name and check out her original post for this prompt as well as her other amazing content!

Without further ado! Let’s waddle into today’s prompt!

-TODAY’S PROMPT-

Blog’s Life
Let’s chat about our blogs. Where did you start with your blogging journey, where’s you’re blog at now and where would you love to see your blog in a year or two? (featuring me being a tease with some of my blog plans for the future)

In a Land Before Time…

This blog started a little over a year ago in the middle of my taking a step back from Booktube. I missed talking about books with people who read the same things as me, and I wanted to be able to continue to build and create those relationships with those who were like-minded. However, I did not want to go back to booktube for several different reasons. So I began Fictionally Sam! My little hub in the world where everything was mine and I got to dictate what content I put out instead of having the pressure of staying on top of the latest YouTube trends and visually appealing content.

I created Fictionally Sam to be able to express the many facets of my first love–storytelling. From my core storytelling has been my favorite thing in the world, and I have loved being able to explore storytelling’s different mediums throughout my life. In the beginning the medium I chose to express the most–were books.

In a Land During Time…

Presently, Fictionally Sam has expanded past the borders of just the literary medium and has begun to branch out to cinematography (which I am stupid excited about). For those who do not know me, I graduated from University with a BS degree in Drama/TV/Film Performance. Which is a hella fancy way of saying Acting for both Stage and Screen with extensive training in cinematography, directing, and writing. So, being able to use the knowledge I have gained as well as fangirl with you all about the stories that have enraptured me is probably the best thing I have ever done.

I have grown literally SO MUCH over the past year that my mind is blown…like reading TMC (This Mortal Coil) blown. It’s been truly a time.

In a Land After Time…

I have so many things planned for the future!! Most of them totally secret because I am basically Taylor Swift with the goods. What I can share with you are some of my bloggish goals that I have set for myself on my blogversary this January:

  • Continue to expand Fictionally Sam to encompass more TV/Film
  • More Original Content
  • Keep on growing, learning, and not breaking stride

I love this place that I am at, and the schedule/routine I have created with this blog and my life and I don’t want to lose it, so these goals are slow coming but like all goals, they are things I look forward to the most.

  1. Honestly, I’m really looking forward to rebranding and going self-hosted. HOWEVER, it is a huge step for me so I’m giving myself a deadline. If until October (when my blog turns 1) I’m still frequently posting and in love with my blog, I will take that huge step.

  2. I love seeing bloggers branch out! I pretty much started my blog intending to talk about books and music, but have branched out to op-eds, TV, and movies. It’s nice to not feel limited with your content. I’m excited to see what new posts you write about cinematography!

  3. Your original posts are super great so I can’t wait to see more of those and I have a feeling my to watch list will grow quickly the more tv/film stuff you post, that poor list doesn’t know what it’s in for. [Also I sat here in shock and had to read twice that you’d been on booktube!]

  5. *contemplates making the “what do we say to the reading slump gods? not today” joke, realizes it wouldn’t fit since the slump has already hit*

see this prompt sounds awesome until you realize that so many of us bloggers want to play our cards (read: keep our upcoming projects) close to the chest so it’s a lot of teasing about future features which is frustrating because I WANT TO KNOW. but I do look forward to seeing what you’ll share with us next, Sam, and I’m so glad that you feel like you’re currently at a good place with blogging and life! 💕
