What’s that in the sky? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s actually a new series by Elizabeth Stephens! All Superheroes Need PR is the first book in Elizabeth Stephen’s first trad series that mixes all the things readers love from her work, bonkers comedy and spicy romance that keeps you swooning till the last page. Did this book pass the vibe check and did we (me) like it enough to swoon?

Instant USA Today bestseller.
He’s a villain looking for a hero rebrand. She’s the marketing genius who can make it happen in this fantastical romantic comedy by the author of the Beasts of Gatamora series.
Over two decades ago, forty-eight young, gifted superheroes fell to Earth and were eventually marketed as opposing heroes and villains. Now, one exceptionally gruff bad guy is looking to hop teams. Hello, PR director Vanessa Theriot.
His real name is Roland Casteel a.k.a. the Pyro. First, swap that with the less incinerating the Wyvern. Next, put him in spandex to highlight that near-godlike body. Finally, give that hero in training a heroine—if Vanessa will play the part in a pretend romance guaranteed to make the city swoon. She’s game. As shy as Vanessa is, it’s her job to be Roland’s very own Lois Lane. Who knew that fake dating would change their worlds?
But falling head over heels for real makes for a dangerous shift in the narrative. A monstrous supervillain is bringing out Roland’s bad side again. This time, it’s to save a woman who, against all the odds, is becoming the human love of his superhero life.
“I may be a hero, but I’m only a hero for her. For you, I can be a villain just fine.”
If Marvel and Roswell had a love child I think it would be this book. 22 years ago 48 magically gifted children touched down on earth with no recollection of where they came from or their past. Throughout the years a divide was created–one for good and one for villains–and the world banked on it. Now, both the Heroes and Villains are looking for their next star, and they want our MMC, Roland, with his gift of being basically the embodiment of heat and fire, to be their next target. Everyone is gunning that he will choose the villains draft pick, but when Vanessa Theriot’s small PR firm is chosen to represent the heroes, Roland shocks the world by choosing to be a hero, with the condition that Vanessa handles every aspect of the contract–including the Lois Lane Claus.
Fake relationship here we come.
This was just an all around fun book. The stakes were low and the vibes were high. Vanessa is a young entrepreneur, trying to set herself and her team up for success despite her crippling social anxiety and PTSD that she is still working through from her less than stellar childhood. Roland is your typical bad boy that is secretly a cinnamon roll when it comes to the people (or in this case person) he cares about. With an infinity to do dumb stuff, Roland wants to do right by Vanessa, and with a sprinkling of a fated mates connection–he’s determined to do just that.
I really enjoyed getting to watch these two come together and watching their relationship spring forward. I did think it was rushed in some areas, especially the ending, but I overall thought it was a fun little superhero romcom. Just like with any superhero story, you have to have a level of suspended belief, but the way Elizabeth Stephens handles it feels natural and not forced. Stephens gives a beautifully inclusive and diverse ensemble of characters, each begging for their own stories to be told–that I’m excited to see what happens in the next installment.
The audio of this was wonderful. Narrators Dara Brown and Sean Bassett did an incredible job bringing this diverse cast of characters to life in a way that pulls you further into the story than away. 10/10 would listen to more of their work and this one gets the 3.5x speed stamp of approval!
Huge thank you to Brilliance Audio for the ALC!
