I have a lot of thoughts on the size of this bad boy and how it fits in the overall scheme of the series, so grab some popcorn and lets talk Hudson and Grace!

I’m just going to start this review by saying–I’ve made it this far. Standing ovation please, because this is the longest I have gone reading a series with this many chunky books and did not know what exactly the plot was/is about. Charm takes us back in time to when Grace was stuck as a Gargoyle for four months. We finally find out what she was up to; and honestly it wasn’t…a lot? We find Grace trapped in what is called the shadow realm with Hudson. Time moves differently there, so for us Grace has been gone only four months, but to her and Hudson–they have been stuck together down there for years.
This book was ridiculously long for the amount of things that happen in said time period–more than half of the book (and I mean like a good 80%) is of Grace and Hudson playing tricks on each other to get under the other’s skin. Other than that the plot never really improved or went forward (honestly it didn’t move in any direction), and when–by some miracle–it did, we suddenly get thrusted two steps back and have to repeat the whole process again.
Honestly, this book was more annoying for me than anything else and I probably would not have minded this if it had been published right after Crush and as a novella. Because as it stands now it just feels so out of place with the story that it breaks up what little flow we had to go with.
I will say I did like getting to know Hudson a bit more and there were a lot of comedic moments that had me snort laughing. But I did spend most of my time skim reading, because of just how slow things were moving.
I can’t say much else without giving away major spoilers for the overarching series. But this book unfortunately wasn’t for me. I’m hoping with how things have ended here in Charm, Cherish will somehow bring everything back around and we will get a great official ending!
