August Wrap Up

Goodbye August

This month was hard storytellers. Excruciatingly slow, and I hate the fact that I have to admit that in this post when I strive to always bring upbeat and happy vibes in everything I post. However, I always choose transparency, and because of that I gotta tell you that this month sucked balls.

My depression has taken a huge toll out of me and I felt like I was being hit with so many different things at once this past month, that I wasn’t able to stand anymore. We moved into the apartment around mid-august, and was hit with some fees the landlady forgot to mention to us during the application process; she moved the fee deadlines to the first of September (so today) because she forgot, but it just makes the quick turnaround amount that I gotta come up with that much bigger. Punch #1 in the depression match.

Punch #2 comes from my work life, where August marked my one year anniversary at my company but also the end of my contract with the temp agency I was working alongside. August was suppose to be when I find out if my company wanted to hire me permanently or not. Instead, the day after my contract ending–my company laid off 2 people and made a company statement that they wouldn’t be hiring anyone else for the remainder of the year. Since then I haven’t gotten any communication on what is happening in regards to me, except for the fact that they continue to approve my timesheet, which my staffing agency tells me is “all that matters”. I don’t like not knowing things, as it is a huge trigger for me, so this whole situation is just one big yikes fest as I am now in professional purgatory, for lack of a better expression.

Couple these punches with a plethora of other punches that I wont bore you with and its been a hot mess. August hasn’t been my month.

Even with my fight against the depression robots, I must admit (or scavenge for depending on your outlook) I did have a few good things happen that made August more bearable! One note–YA GIRL MOVED! I have my own room, some temporary shelves thanks to some family members and a stove that I can finally make all the recipes I’ve been dying and hoarding to try.

*may the awkward whale noises commence*

Second note– I started a Patreon Account!🎉 Since December of last year, I have been silently toying with the idea of starting a Patreon account, but kept pushing it away because I wasn’t sure if I could give anything worth value in my current position in life among other things. Welp, this month I said YOLO and began one!

Depending on the level of support Patrons choose, they can receive the following:

  • Exclusive content from Fictionally Sam
  • Early access to featured posts
  • Fictionally Sam control where you can decide the movies and books I read next
  • Exclusive Patreon-only monthly playlists
  • Exclusive Q&A where you can ask me literally anything
  • Shout out on Blogs with a Link to your blog (if you have one)
  • Post-Control where you can decide on a post topic for the blog!
  • Never before seen Poetry by me
  • Personalized playlists
  • Handwritten letter with bookish recommendations

And so much more! As I get the hang of Patreon, I will be adding more content and possibly tacking on my handmade candles (yeah, I make candles!) as an added benefit! If you do decide to become one of my patrons, please note that the charges are made on the first of every month and I post weekly on my Patreon so there will always be some form of content floating in and out of there for you guys!
Please note, that if you aren’t able to support me over on Patreon, don’t sweat it! Amazing content will still be thrown at you here on Fictionally Sam! Patreon is just another way for me to offset some blogging costs and keep enabling my bookish addiction so that I can keep churning out the things I love to give to you all in the best format that they can be! If you still want to support but Patreon isn’t your vibe, I do have a Ko-fi, where you can slide a one-time donation over my way!
Okay self-promo over and I can stop making the awkward whale noises! Finally, here is what you all have been waiting for–what I consumed in the month of August! Grab some popcorn storytellers and enjoy the wrap up!

I’m so sorry about your depression, and I couldn’t imagine not knowing your employment status like that. I think that was one of the reasons I took another job when I was with an employment agency, because the company that I was temping for never made it clear on how many of us they would hire permanently, and the longer I started working there, the more I saw that all of us temps were slowly being let go. It gave me huge anxiety and I could not handle it. I’m always here to talk if you need to.
I’m going to take a look at my finances soon and see if I can start being a Patreon member for you. I’d love to support you as much as I can, and I’m definitely going to check out your candles because I am a huge candle stan and I need more around my house. I’d love to get them from you <3

oof to unclear companies. I literally hate coporate america for the sole fact that they demand one of the skills their employees to have when being interviewed is communication skills, but yet they never themselves communicate. Like if its bad news let me know so I can make proper arrangements–if it isn’t, great! Calm my anxiety! *grumbles some more as I pour a glass of wine*
❤❤❤❤❤ Candles are baeeeeee! I’m hoping to start selling (maybe?) the ones I make in the coming months, as currently I’m still testing out scents and researching how to sell them! Will let you know when I do though! Thanks for your interest! <3

Sorry to hear that your depression is making it difficult for you. But you’ll make a comeback and fight it back! Yay for you moving! That’s great! That’s quite a few books read this month – well done!
I… only recently listening to Lover AND I LOVE IT??? I think The Man is my favourite, with Cruel Summer, The Archer, and False God are up there as well.
South of the Border!! I love that one! Beautiful People and I Don’t Care play waaaay too much on the radio and South of the Border doesn’t get enough radio time.
Ooh, yes to Raise a Hallelujah! That is a good one!
I added Wu Assassins to my list. Is it good? It looks really good. And with Buffy I really need to start. Maybe I should keep it for October 😜

Thank you! Soon I shall be the comeback queen! <3
      *Takes deep breath*
I think my top 5 songs on the album would be: False God, Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince, Cornelia Street, Lover, Cruel Summer <3 <3 <3
Ed Sheeran is a genius and I would not be surprised if he is my top listened to artist at the end of the year #itsfine. 🤣🤣
As for Wu Assassins–I didn't particularly like it but I know a few people enjoyed it and found it entertaining, so I highly suggest watching the first two episodes and seeing if you vibe with it!

Lover!!!! Ed Sheehan makes super good music. I’m guessing my top listened to artist would be Florence and the Machine 😂😂
Thanks for the heads up! I usually am like that – sort of putting the series through a trial period to see how it goes.

        1. Sam || Fictionally Sam

          September 10, 2019 at 10:05 am

OMG YES TO FLORENCE!!!!! My heart has a steady and firm beat for her! Like everything she creates is I C O N I C.
Solid plan on the trial period!! Let me know if you like it!

            September 10, 2019 at 9:01 pm

Honestly, there’s never not a moment when I’m not thinking of at least one of her songs.
Trial periods are the best because then there’s no pressure on you to fully watch them! Will do so!

I’m so sorry to hear that this hasn’t been the best month for you, Sam! I hope you find out what’s going to happen at your job ASAP. Also, I didn’t know you made candles! Where is the order form? SIGN ME UP!

Thank you! It’s been rough but they did let everyone know (kinda) that they aren’t planning to hire anyone on for the remainder of the year nor are they planning to let anyone else go, so it looks like I will still be temping for a bit longer.
AND I DO! I am currently still fiddling with scents, but def will let you know what I start to sell them!

Ewwww to all the fees and not letting you know until after the application process. Rude. And OMG that is just awful from work. They might as well be telling you that they don’t want to hire you but they’ll keep you as a glorified secretary or the equivalent. 🙁 (Then again, what a lack of communication – an absolute mood right there.)
I’M VERY PROUD OF YOU STARTING PATREON. I’m sorry August has been Difficult™ for you, and you know you can slide into my DMs asking for cute GIFs to cheer you up if you ever need it!

Well, if this isn’t the biggest mood of the month so far, I don’t know what is. I’m pretty sure I know just about every song off by heart already and every day I seem to wake up with a new one stuck in my head. 😂
Sorry August was rubbish for you. I totally understand what you mean about your work. My work seems to just extend temp staff forever… which can be infuriating and also just really detrimental to people’s mental health. It’s the worst. Sending hugs your way, Sam 💕

I am so sorry that August was a terrible month for you – professional purgatory AND surprise fees are definitely stressors that would bum out anyone. The thing is — they NEED a person in your position, so I would like to think there’s security there. But the fact they’ve continued to keep you in this limbo is gross, esp since under the temp contract they weren’t obligated to give you things like benefits… this feels dubious and kind of gross.

Giving you all the love, and congrats on starting your Patreon!
