Who gave me permission to even July?
As you all may have remembered, June was a coma induced book buying binge that was ridiculous in size. So big that ya girl had to put herself on a hardcore ban for the foreseeable future. If memory serves correctly, the buying ban happened towards the middle/end of June where I enlisted the help of my friends on the Bookish Collision Discord Server (click the link to join!) to keep me accountable.

Because of them I was doing so great in keeping to my ban and the goals that I set for myself–that is…until that fateful evening on July 14, 2019 when I waddled onto facebook and saw from one of my bookish groups that I am apart of, that Barnes and Nobles has made another round of prints for the B&N Edition of Cruel Prince. Now, to explain why this caused me a momentary lapse of self control, I must explain, that I got The Wicked King (which is the second installment in the series) B&N Edition before picking up (and reading) Cruel Prince. I also struggle and manage a nice bout of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) which shows up/flares up in my life in the form of I need things to match.
Badly.
So I physically could not bring myself to buy any other edition of Cruel Prince if it wasn’t the B&N Edition–because of my compulsion to have things match. It’s annoying as all get out, but here we are. Because of this dilemna, I immediately bum rushed to Barnes and Noble’s website and went to order me a copy–because who the fuck knows when that bad boy would be printed again, and ya girl IS NOT spending $80 on a book. Nope. So I went and was in the process of checking out, when that nice little pop-up came and told me if I spent a little more I could get a discount. I already had things on sale in my save for later cart–so why not. YOLO.
And here we are.
A pre-order of The Cruel Prince and three new books to sit upon my shelves later. I broke my ban. And my lovely friends on discord chose my fate and I was tasked with writing a drunk letter to the bad boys of the fiction world. Since then, I have been on a mission to be the model of a good ban member should be and haven’t purchased anything since.
YAY ME!
As always, before I get into the bounty of which my kindle and shelves cry out to in joy, let me preface this with I am a super frugal and hella cheap person. Most–if not all– of my purchases were deals from bookbub.com, amazon, audible, etc. which amounted to many of them being free, as well as through my carefully thought out monthly book budget as I have placed reading and supporting authors and the arts a priority when planning my personal finances. With that being said, take a look at my walk of shamelessness.

Are any of these on your TBRs, or have you already read them? If so, what did you think?
Using this as permish to buy those B&N exclusive editions because…I gotta.
omg do it! 😂😂
I love your punishments honestly, but I am rooting for you to stick to your ban <3
Haha thank you! I love it too! 2 more months and hopefully I can kick the ban away!
AAA I’ve been waiting for this for so looong!! You already know you have to read CD Reiss’s Marriage Games. You also need to read Whiskey Secrets by Carrie Ann Ryan. She’s ah-mazing. The story is just as wonderful as you can imagine. Like I told you in the server, those books were totally worth breaking the ban. Especially the Tessa Bailey one. I’m excited for you to read these books!!
I wrote out my Sept TBR and these are at the top after I finish ARC demolition! CD Reiss is about to be devoured!
Having a matching series is such a beautiful sight though, so I completely understand why you could not say no 😂And of course it only makes sense to buy more books to get a discount! That’s savvy shopping at its finest 😉
YES! That was exactly my thought process! LMAO
*is on the same boat* I have two copies of The Wicked King because I couldn’t say no. And I might’ve pre-ordered Crescent City and signed up for a book sub……
I’m rooting for you SAM! BE STRONG! <3
Trying to be a member of the good ban club is definitely hard 😢 Those bookbub emails are so fun to get, because you do get one or two free and sometimes they’re good! I know I wanted to request or download The Girl the Sea Gave Back – I think it might have been on Edelweiss for download? I can’t remember but in the end I decided not to as I was already breaking my ban, badly 😂 but I might see if I can loan it from my library if it’s good!
staying in the good ban club is harder than getting into an ivy league school 😂 YOU GOT THIS DB!!!! I BELIEVE IN YOU!
Can we just try and support each other in bans and Arc August? Like just cling to each other when we feel the need to buy things?! But, you know, AMAZING haul!!!
YES! IM HERE FOR THIS SUPPORT CAUSE AND CHEER SQUAD! TEMPTATION SHANT GET US TODAY SATAN!
80$ for ONE BOOK?! yeah, no. I do love my books deeply but jesus that’s a whole lot of money.. that being said, of you you had to get that little discount ! XD I so would’ve done the same ahaha
I do really love that punishment system ahaha too bad I missed it 😂 that’s really smart!
Out of all thoses listed, I think I only know of Fix her up ..
I really respect your commitment to your Book Buying Ban. Every time I try, I fail miserably.
BTW, I nominated you for the Mystery Blogger Award! You don’t have to participate, but if you want to you can find the rules/prompts here: https://strangelypopcultured.com/2019/08/20/mystery-blogger-award/
1) this haul is AMAZING, and 2) I love that you get “punished” for breaking your ban 😂😂😂
Ahhh, The Girl the Sea Gave Back!! I hope you love it!! (Also, I would break my ban for a matching TCP too. You are VALIDATED, Sam!!) 💕
THANKYOUUU!!!!
This is a fucking mood for me an arcs last month, lol! You may have broken your ban but holy hell you got so many eBooks for free & I am impressed.
*bows*
ARCs will probs be the mountain we struggle on for a hot minute lmao. BUT WE SHALL OVERCOME!
