Becoming Hamilton || CAMP NANOWRIMO Week #2

Becoming Hamilton is an installment/series on Fictionally Sam, where I take the plunge in documenting my journey of writing a novel. New posts every Saturday of July, follow me as I attempt to write like I’m running out of time.

This week I wrote absolutely nothing because time is an arse who didn’t want to be with me. So this is probably going to be on the boring side of these documenting posts. Hopefully my banter makes up for the repetitiveness?

With that said let’s look at my daily thoughts earlier this week!

So see what happened was…the USA Women’s team won the world cup, so I celebrated by binge finishing Good Omens–which promptly led me down a spiral of reading. So that’s what happened….

I DIDN’T WRITE BUT YA GIRL FINALLY FIGURED OUT THE FIRST ACT OF THIS WIP!

DUCKING FINALLY!

I’ve realized I need to plan to a certain extent. Ya girl can’t be a complete pantser. I thought the amount of outlining I did before was good enough, but it wasn’t and I was stuck. So I sat my ass down and forced myself to either reinvent the plot or to figure out where I wanted to go to get to the parts I knew I wanted. My innerself chose the latter. Bless.

So overall, I didn’t do a lick of writing actual words, but I did work on the WIP so I’m calling today a success!

Words written: LMAO THIS IS GETTING DEPRESSING — 0 | Total Word Count: 922

I honestly set out to write after work, but had a family emergency so the chunk of time I set out to do was spent with my family and figuring out the situation/resolving it. So no writing today. I’m not mad that I didn’t write (a learning curve) but I do feel guilty, which is super lame because this is a process and your gonna have days/weeks where you just don’t have anything on paper. A bigger learning curve for sure.

OKAY! So I tried waking up 2 hours before I had to leave for work because I knew I would be with family after work finishing up the situation from yesterday; and lets just say it didn’t go as planned–ya girl fell right back the duck to sleep.

I honestly don’t know where my writing sweet spot is. #forevernotwriting

Gym day. This is all my body could dispense of energy to type.

I knew I wasn’t going to be able to write today, just because it was the last meet up for my church’s bible study and also cause I was going to work late for a project for work. But I did carve out a huge amount of time tomorrow solely dedicated to working on this blasted WIP–like I’m taking my ass out of the house and going to Barnes and Noble to write. This shit is getting done.

And we are current! Check out today’s thoughts and progress on next Saturday’s check in! But until then…

Are you participating in Camp this month? If so, what is the 456th word in your WIP?

  1. Don’t give up! I feel the same way, after I told myself that I would participate in Camp NaNo this month but I’ve only written 1,000 words so far, but I’m still trying! 😂 My 456th word is “insult”, by the way.

Good luck with next week! Hopefully we’ll both get something done by then!

    1. WE GOT THIS! WE ARE TOTALLY GONNA DEMOLISH CAMP TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITIES!!! You can officially call me your camp cheerleader!

OMG I love that word! Now I am all to intrigued what the context is!

Happy writing!!! Fingers crossed for you and sending you all the inspiration and creative writing vibes!

  2. Yeah I had a bad week too. :/ My part time job gets busier in the summer so I’m needed more often and I forgot how much time working takes up and at the end of the day I’m usually so tired. :/ I try to get some writing done before work, but I usually can’t get more than a couple paragraphs down. Yesterday I literally only had time to write two sentences. TWO. XD
I’m frustrated cuz I think I underestimated the time it’s actually going to take me to finish my WIP again. :/ I REALLY wanted to finish it by the end of July but I still have so much to do and it’s been hard finding time to write with work and also blogging and stuff. Also I’ve barely read anything since May. XD
Awe I hope your family is okay! 😦 Don’t stress too much about writing with whatever’s going on. Life gets in the way sometimes unfortunately.
I’m technically doing camp, but I’m tracking by word count on the site and by scenes in my bujo cuz I’m just trying to finish the story and I’m not sure exactly how many words it’ll take me. I’m finishing my book that I started for April’s camp nano, so it’s not the 456th word that I’ve written since camp started, but the word is: “is” XD XD

    1. oof! Yeah I too didn’t realize just how exhausted I would be after work than when I decided to write daily. Work literally sucks everything out of a person!

Hey two sentences is better than zero! At least that is what I keep telling myself. We are making the effort and that is all that matters!

Fingers crossed that you find some time to sit and write as much as you like and things start to wind down for you at work. You got this Heather! I believe in you!!!

      1. Thank you! It is winding down a little now that I’ve finished a big project they needed me for, so hopefully I can do a lot this week. I’m totally failing Camp Nano but all that matters is that I finish my WIP. 🙂 I don’t think I’ll be able to do it before August but I just need to make myself be okay with that and just keep going!

  3. confession: I haven’t written anything this week either! but I’m gonna use the start of my summer class as an excuse, as though I haven’t spent hours every day watching Good Omens fanvids and getting into Jessica Jones (because David Tennant) 😅

I don’t even have the first act figured out, so hey, you’re ahead of me – planning definitely counts as work! opening my doc for the first time in way too long, I realized I actually didn’t know whether my word count was over 500 since I’m tracking hours instead of words – which is not actually helping, since a 0 is a 0 is a 0 no matter the units – but it was, and the 456th word happens to be venue: “The Center is the venue for anything worth attending in this town, and many people spend more time there than at home.” because apparently I let myself detour into infodump-worldbuilding when I don’t know what to write, haha.

    1. Phew I’m not alone then! Also good omens is amazing and I too am obsessed–this is fine 😂

Haha infodumps are my go-to lmao! If you could hear my inner dialogue when I’m writing you would most likely here a stream of “ooo this song is a bop….wtf am I writing…YOLO…when in doubt, info dump this shit out”

      Truly a time.

  4. I mean this is such a busy time in general, summer…it’s hot, the heat sucks the words out of people’s bodies -known fact- *pulls out pom-poms and cheers for you* You at least figured out the first act of this WIP. GO YOU, YOU CAN DO THIS
