Happy Friday Storytellers! This summer has been chalk full of great films and new trailer releases that honestly my head is spinning and I can’t jot them down in my planner fast enough! Even though this summer has been a whirlwind for the cinemas, July seems to be slowing things down as we gear up for our fall movie line up. I don’t know about y’all but I am kind of happy that July is super chill, because it gives me enough time to catch up on all the films I missed before!
So without further ado, grab your calendars and some popcorn and look at all the excited films to grace our cinema’s this July!
Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 5th)

Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man must step up to take on new threats in a world that has changed forever.
I have yet to see any of the Spider-man’s with Tom Holland, but you give me Jake Gyllenhaal in a cape any day and you can find your girl binging them so she can watch.
Stuber (July 12th)
Genre: Action, Comedy
Rated: R
Directed: Michael Dowse
Starring: Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Steve Howey, Mira Sorvino
A detective recruits his Uber driver into an unexpected night of adventure.
This made my list purely because I adore Dave Bautista’s work and the trailer made me laugh really loudly in Starbucks.
Lion King (July 19th)
Genre: Animation, Adventure, Drama, Family, Musical
Rated: PG
Directed: Jon Favreau
Starring: Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones
After the murder of his father, a young lion prince flees his kingdom only to learn the true meaning of responsibility and bravery.
This is one of my most anticipated movie releases of the year, I am beyond stoked to see this new interpratation and I am actually really looking forward to these new voice’s takes on these beloved characters. Besides, if nothing else–we have BEYONCE on the soundtrack. It’s already a bop and it ain’t even out yet. 🙌
I don’t know if I want to see the new Lion King or not…
I am looking forward to seeing Midsommar (not sure if that’s a June or a July release though)
Midsommar is a July release set for the third of this month! I hear that it is a spectacular piece of cinematography so I hope you enjoy it!
Got tickets booked for the third – hoping it lives up to expectations!
This is awesome post Sam! I am extremely excited for The Lion King & Spiderman Far From Home~ The new Bethany Hamilton documentary also looks really cool
Thank you! and yes! I just heard about her documentary so I’m also interested in seeing that but I think I am gonna wait for that one to go on Netflix lmao
Stuber looks so awesome! It’s exactly the movie I needed and didn’t knew!
YAS! I hope you enjoy it if you do decide to go see it!
I want to see all these movies so so so so bad!! Definitely psyched the most for the new Spider Man movie, Tom Holland is just amazing and I need more of him in my life (also Zendaya bc dayum)
OMG YES! Zendaya and Tom Holland are 10/10 would recommends! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on these if you go seem em!
ngl I teared up just watching the Far From Home trailer, it probably won’t be as bad as Endgame but there’s no way I will be ready for it. (but if I could just put one scene in that movie, I want some cute almost-sibling interactions between Peter and Morgan – no idea if we’re getting them but I have a need.)
honestly though, Far From Home and Lion King are pretty much the only June movie releases I’ve heard of and have significant interest in seeing; I know a lot of books are getting upcoming adaptations (including Natalie Tan and His Dark Materials) but that’s not happening yet, and come to think of it I might be more into backlist movies? like, the fresh new releases are fun, but since I don’t spend that much time watching movies I like working through the classics 🤔
I share that same need Izzy, the deepness of that need is hella real. Like we better get some Morgan if they are gonna spring her on us in endgame. smh.
Backlists need love too! No shame in that game friend!
Far From Home is just gonna leave me curled up in a ball crying through half of it, but I can’t wait to see it. I think The Lion King I’ll have to wait until it comes to our local theater, I want to see it, I’m only hesitant with how they made Will Smith look, but, I mean it’s Will Smith, he’ll rock the Genie part…and Beyonce…so like is there any more reason necessary?
**Note: that last comment I’d accidentally made through my publishing company, DnA Publishing Group so if you see it can you delete it?** here’s MY original comment again. Please keep this one:
Far From Home already got me in my feelings 😭😭😭😭😭 Stuber looks both hilarious and stupid lol which makes me want to see it even more! No one is talking about that Yesterday movie about everyone forgetting about the Beatles lol idk it looks kinda dumb but it’s summer so all of the dumb things come out sooner.
Our family is also very excited about Spiderman and Lion King. The biggest plus is we will be visiting the United States so we can actually AFFORD to see a movie and it will be playing in English! 🙂
YAY! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it when you see it!
