We have finally reached the end! Jamsu and I are back with another buddy read, and this month we finally got to read the Monster’s We Are by Suzanne Wright–the last book and conclusion in her Devil’s Cradle trilogy and well… it wasn’t what I was hoping it would be.

I very much went into this with minimal expectations (but with hope it would be better) as I wasn’t a huge huge fan of how things played out in the second book. Unfortunately, even my minimal expectations were a tad too high for this conclusion. I just could not get into the repetitive nature of the conflict/plot points used throughout the book. We saw the same things happen over and over again with the same outcome that I very much yawned and had to switch to audio at 3.5x speed just to make it through.
The romance in this (to me at least) left me wishing for just more. We really didn’t see any development within Wynter and Cain’s relationship, and a lot of their dialogue was just repeating everything back to the other we just got done reading about beforehand. I wanted depth, emotional intimacy, and just…more from them.
It saddens me because I really thought this trilogy had potential to be wonderful and great, but unfortunately the last two books were the first books doppelganger, and we just read the same book thrice. I don’t think I will be continuing the series if she decides to make a spin-off with the secondary characters like she has with her other series in the past. I just don’t think I’m investing in their lives anymore.
