May Book Haul || The Month Where Kindle Deals Were My Downfall

I swore to myself that May’s haul was gonna be a real small one. At the end of April I said to myself: “sam–you got a crap ton of ARCs to read. Don’t get any books“. At the time my inner self was all kinds of game for the plan of action; and we were cruising down the nopeville of book buying land. But then I kicked the reading slump’s ass…

And that is when it happened.

CaptureI swear it was like the universe conspired against me and made all of my favorites that I’ve read before but didn’t own go on sale! AND THEN, almost every single book that I had on my “want to get but probably shouldn’t cause wow bills” shelf WENT ON DUCKING SALE TOO. You know the worst part about Kindle sales? You never truly realize how much you spend and how much they add up, because you can’t add the e-books to a cart–you can only one-click them.

So in the end, you are seeing these deals for $2.99 USD and lower and your like “oh shit that’s a snag! I gotta get this!” with the intention of only spending 10 maybe 15 bucks on these sales; but by the time you come out of the book sale coma–consciousness returns to you as your kindle rejoices in it’s new friends. But by that time, you see the damage you did to your credit card that you just paid off and…

Yup…That is where I am at now.

So grab some popcorn and take a look at what I did in my kindle deal haze.

As always, before I get into the bounty of which my kindle and shelves cry out to in joy, let me preface this with I am a super frugal and hella cheap person. Most–if not all– of my purchases were deals from bookbub.com, amazon, audible, etc. which amounted to many of them being free, as well as through my carefully thought out monthly book budget as I have placed reading and supporting authors and the arts a priority when planning my personal finances. With that being said, take a look at my walk of shamelessness.

Mini-Reviews Monday #9

Mini-Reviews Monday is a monthly series in which I attempt to get caught up on reviews in bulk. These reviews are a highlight reel instead of an in-depth look into my time reading these novels. If you would like an in-depth version of my review, let me know in the comments!

Once Upon a Bad Boy (Sometimes in Love, #3)Once Upon A Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson

Genres: Romance
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Publication Date: June 25th 2019
Source: Netgalley
Format: eARC
Rating: fangirlstarsfangirlstarsfangirlstars

I am honestly shocked that I enjoyed this one when the others in this series was a doozy for me. Once Upon A Bad Boy is a cute summer feeling second chance romance that had me feeling all the things. I really enjoyed our main characters and the chemistry between them wasn’t only steamy and intense but also believable and natural. Bo and Sadie are probably without a doubt my favorite couple from this series and I wouldn’t mind reading more from these two! There were some issues that I had in regards to dialogue near the end that felt forced/rushed which is why I knocked a few stars off as it pulled me out of the story on several occasions; but overall I really enjoyed myself with this one!

ARC provided by St. Martin’s Press and Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review

Rec Me Sunday: LGBTQIA+ Books I Can’t Wait To Read

Rec me Sunday is a new series on Fictionally Sam where I basically give you recommendation of books based on different topics/tropes that will wreck you in all the best ways possible!

Happy Pride month storytellers! Not only does this month mark my entering the world on the back of a unicorn, but it also marks the celebration and awareness of the LGBTQIA+ community!

Usually my rec me Sundays are books that I have read, however with it being Pride month I wanted to do something LGBT themed–which brings me to my confession…I haven’t read a lot of books that have LGBT rep in it–well at least with reputable representation–that I would be comfortable making an actual post for. I am working on fixing this, so I thought it would be fun to show you the books that I do plan on reading!

May Wrap Up

I KICKED READINGS SLUMPS ASS.

This last month I said screw you to my reading slump and read all the things, and I actually enjoyed almost if not all of them?! WHO EVEN AM I?! I know, A bad-ass reader who doesn’t take no shit unless its from unicorns!

May was a truly an eye opener month, I realized a lot of things both personally and here on the blog that really pushed me to make a change (my post: Gaining Perspective.), and those changes have really helped and benefited me a lot. I’m not stressing as much as before, and I am actually enjoying reading again–which by itself is a miracle.

A time has been had.

But other than that, May has been chalk full of some great storytelling; so grab some popcorn, get a snuggly blanket, maybe even some lemonade for summer purposes, and check out all the things I consumed for the last 31 days!
