Genre in Depth: Thrillers

Genre in Depth is a new series on Fictionally Sam where we delve into different genre and see how they began, their characteristics, and books within that genre, etc. New genre every first and last Wednesday of the month!

Happy Wednesday Storytellers! It’s finally April and things are going amazing as we are waddling deeper into the trenches of Bookending Spring! If you don’t know what Bookending Spring is, it’s basically a seasonal event that I and my partner in crime Clo @ Book Dragons created and run that aspires to bring the book blogging community closer together! To find out more about it and how to get involved, check out our announcement post here: Bookending Spring 2019 Announcement. We’d love to have you join in on the fun!

In today’s installment of Genre in Depth, we are going to be taking a look into the Thriller genre and see what exactly gets this fast paced genre’s heart racing. Like previously with mysteries, I don’t read a lot of thrillers –which I am trying to fix! With that said, I would like to point out that I took to my lovely friends for recommendations for books specifically for this post as I haven’t read much in this genre that I feel comfortable in giving you a recommendation. I trust their judgement 100% and if they rec it than I rec it too!

So grab your chair, get comfy, and let’s get thrilled!

Books That Have Changed Lives

As 2019 has been going and resolutions are being enacted and lives are changing in huge and subtle ways– I’ve realized that a lot of who I am is because of the books I read. This train of thought had me wondering what books could I pin point to say have changed me the most? Which lead me to wondering what books have changed the lives of others?

Enter in this post.

I want to highlight the books that have inspired those to lead a better life, whether that be inwardly or outwardly. I want to give those books a moment to change others lives and let them shine just as they have done with the people below. With this in mind, I took to Social Media and Discord asking book bloggers and book lovers from everywhere to share their books and their stories. With that said, thank you to everyone who wrote in and shared their stories with me! It meant so much to me to read all of your responses and see the different books that shaped you and your life! Continue reading “Books That Have Changed Lives”

Out of My Comfort Zone Tag

Hey Storytellers! Today we are gonna waddle out of our comfort zone for another tag! Big thank you to Jamsu for tagging me in this one! One of the stipulations for this tag is that I have to pick ONE genre that I read often and then not use it at all…a time.

So, If I’m really going to get out of my comfort zone for this one, I guess I will be getting rid of the romance genre. The struggle bus has departed… Continue reading “Out of My Comfort Zone Tag”

Genre in Depth: Mystery

Genre in Depth is a new series on Fictionally Sam where we delve into different genre and see how they began, their characteristics, and books within that genre, etc. New genre every first and last Wednesday of the month!

I spy with my little brown eyes a very late post. I know what you are going to say, “aren’t these suppose to be posted on Wednesdays?” and yes Karen, yes they are supposed to be up on Wednesday– but who would have thought that mystery had so…much? I wanted to do this genre justice, and as I got deeper into my research I realized that this one was going to take more time than I originally planned and allotted for. So here we are.

Today’s installment we are going to look at the genre of mystery and all that it holds (which is a whole of a lot). As I probably have only read two series and a standalone that could be considered part of the mystery genre (thank you Nancy Drew and the Sammy Keyes series!) I found that I too learned so much about this genre, and now I am honestly really intrigued to pick up a few books in the Mystery spectrum and delve into their stories! With that said, I would like to point out that I took to my lovely friends for recommendations for books specifically for this post as I haven’t read much in the genre to be able to fully give you a recommendation. I trust their judgement 100% and if they rec it than I rec it too!

So grab your chair, get comfy, and let’s evaluate the clues!
