Top 5 Favorite Dynamic Storytellers

Storyteller /ˈstôrēˌtelər/
noun.
A person who tells stories. A teller of tales.

Storytelling dates back to the beginning of man and is described as “the social and cultural activity of sharing stories, sometimes with improvisation, theatrics, or embellishment.” Throughout time, storytelling has been used to teach, share, and grow and much of our world was built from the magic that it holds. I think that is why I love it so much, because it’s probably the most powerful thing we have next to our own voices. It gives the world a chance to explore and see things in ways we never imagined.
However, the world would never have the magic of storytelling without someone to tell their stories of new and of old. That is where we come in and this post! Like some, I have dedicated my life and livelihood to bringing the magic of storytelling to the world no matter the medium/platform. So I thought it would be fun to highlight my top 5 storytellers who have also dedicated their lives to the cause!
So grab some popcorn, and get ready for some storytelling magic!

This woman could make a film solely about her picking up a bottle of milk and I would be all over it. Dynamic would be an understatement for this actress, as she always brings a different dimension and realism to everything she takes on. Record breaking Oscar nominee and winner–she is literally what I aspire to become as not only a thespian but also as a storyteller in general. She has a way to make everything she does come to life and in every movie she plays it’s hard to discern the difference between what is Meryl and what is the character–which is the ultimate goal as an actor.

Simply put: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I grew up immersed in this world of Elves, Hobbits, and Orcs and it has shaped my way of living and imagination in ways I can’t even express. This is why Tolkien is one of my favorite storytellers–because he wrote a masterpiece that has stayed in people’s hearts and minds years and years after it’s release. The world building alone would have placed him into this list but everything else just puts him right up here with the greats.

Like Tolkien, Maas is someone that has made a huge impact on me. I saw myself in the ACOTAR series when I was in a dark place in life, and found myself beginning to mend right alongside Feyre. The complexity of not only Maas’ characters but also to her story lines makes her stories come to life that much more. Realism meets fantasy in the best way possible with her novels and no matter what you are always catapulted and invested from the get go.

THE MAN IS A LEGEND IN THE THEATRE WORLD AND PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST COMEDIC PLAYWRIGHTS OUT THERE. This man has been an icon for me since I began my journey in the theatre world. Contributing to both plays, screenplays, teleplays and musicals over the course of his career, Simon is probably one of the most prolific writers to date. Many of his plays brought out hard to deal with topics through a comedic outlet that made it easier to open up conversation windows and shifted the way society views things such as cultural anxety and the hardships of daily life. Tony AND Oscar nominee (Like I said GOALS), Neil Simon is one storyteller that is so dynamic I don’t think anyone can forget his magic.

I don’t think this post would be right if I didn’t add this magnificent genius here. Lin is a modern day storyteller that has changed the way people theatre and musicals. His words have transcended generations and touched the hearts of many–especially mine. The way he weaves lyrical genius with heart wrenching melodies and beats continuously captivates me, and to this day I am still finding new depths to the Hamilton musical that I never noticed before. The man is a stroke of genius and I stan anything he creates.

What are some of your favorite storytellers? Let me know!

I’ve never heard of it and that makes me a bad, bad person who doesn’t deserve Lin Manuel Miranda but I am going to redeem myself by checking it out!

Hubs and I agree that Meryl Streep would make an incredible Batman. Not batwoman or batgirl, batman. She is such a talented actor, I love your list!!!! So many great story tellers! I would say for me I would have Leonardo DiCaprio for an actor-story teller, Philip Pullman, and Mozart, I love his operas the most <3

OMG YES TO LEONARDO! He is for sure getting up there in Meryl Streep level
Pullman and Mozart have my ears and my heart. <3

Lin Manuel is a GENIUS. We saw him in “In The Heights” when it first came out and I was blown away then. For me – George R.R. MArtin would be at the top of my list – he built such an incredible world!
