June 2019: TBW (To Be Watched)

Happy Wednesday Storytellers! Another month is flying past us and another month of stories are drawing near! If you are new here–first off, if you are, Hiya and welcome to my neck of the woods!– then let me tell you that apart from yelling my love of books from the mountain tops, I also yell my love of movies and TV series from those very same mountain tops!
A few days ago, I was bored and attempting to make a TBR for the month of June (because I am so good at keeping those) when I got to thinking about all the shows and movies I wanted to watch in June as well. This thought spiral led me to the fact that barely anyone (wont say all/no one–because wow the internet is huge and who has the time to comb through the entire internet) every posts their to be watched (TBW) lists. I have always seen plans for the reading–but never for the watching.
So here is me–being a maybe (huge emphasis on maybe) trendsetter and noting down what I aspire to watch in the month of June! I typically don’t post my TBRs because again, ya girl probably never keeps them, but if you are interested in seeing what I would like to read in June, let me know in the comments!
But without further ado, kick back, relax, and look at all the things I have yet to watch.

Television

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer (Hulu)

Current standing: Season 2, Episode 2

I always get to season 2 episode 2 and then for whatever reason forget to continue. BUT I SHALL PROVE VICTORIOUS! I am honestly having the time of my life watching this and I am so thankful for Kal and Jamsu for pushing me to watch this. I missed out on greatness in my youth.

Chilling Adventure of Sabrina (Netflix)

Current standing: Season 1, Episode 1

I’ve been meaning to watch this since its release last October, but every time I set out to watch it, I always get sidetracked either by what’s already on live TV or by a book. By the time I remember I wanted to watch this series I am just not in the mood anymore (literal story of my life). So I am hoping that I can treat myself to a few episodes of this in June!

Gentleman Jack (HBO)

Current standing: Season 1, Episode 1

OKAY! So I have been seeing adverts for this after every Game of Thrones episode and I was seriously intrigued. One night, I caught the tale end of an episode and ya girl was hooked. I don’t know what episode I watched, so I’m going to go back to the beginning and start there. BUT WOW! I’m not one for historical fiction at all, but this could possibly be an exception!

American Gods (STARZ)

Current standing: Season 1, Episode 1

I love mythology, and I love Neil Gaiman. I don’t know why it has taken me this long to realize they made a huge production for this book. So here I am joining the band wagon all kinds of fabulously late. YOLO.

Sex Education (Netflix)

Current standing: Season 1, Episode 1

Another band wagon I am joining in on all kinds of late, but it is what it is! At least I am getting on! I know nothing about this storyline except that this kid’s mom is a sex therapist (I think?) and he starts being one for his fellow classmates at his school….I think. A time will be had if I am right on the synopsis!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon Prime)

Current standing: Season 1, Episode 1

I have seen this show win award after award and I have yet to start it even though it’s been on my to be watch list since it’s pilot was announced all those moons ago. I honestly love the premise of the show, and the cast is phenomenal from the works I’ve seen of theirs individually–so I am excited to see their dynamic when put together! Again, I am not into historical fiction, but I am hoping that I can get behind this one.

Film

This is backlist films only. New releases will be in a separate post (My anticipated June Movie Releases).

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (Amazon Prime)

So this movie got 49% on Rotten Tomatoes with reviews that basically say it used its fancy budget to hide the inconsistencies in plot and narrative. If I am nothing else, I am a lover of watching bad fantasy/sci-fi films. I shall indulge myself in this.

A Quiet Place (Amazon Prime)

This deserved more, and I am ashamed (not really but a little) to say I haven’t watched this piece of art yet. I am profoundly intrigued and awe struck at the use (or lack) of audio in this and how beautiful it translates based off of what my friends and reviewers have said. I am super stoked that Prime added it to their streaming service, so I will be having a lot of popcorn in June.

Every Day (Amazon Prime)

Based off David Levithan’s book of the same title, this one I was really looking forward to seeing when it was released in theatres–but life happened and I was unable to go. So when I saw Amazon picked it up on their streaming site, I may or may not have done a little jiggle in my bed. I am anticipating another bop of a movie so I really need to read this book first…and quickly!

The Perfect Date (Netflix)

Noah Centineo is all I will say. Yup.

Homecoming (Netflix)

I stan Beyonce like I stan myself. She is queen–I am queen, we must support our fellow queens!

Jurassic Park (STARZ)

I can hear your gasps from all the way in my office. Yes, this is very true–I have never seen Jurassic Park (and before you say it, I haven’t seen the new ones with Chris Pratt either so calm thy pectoral area). I’ve been getting a lot of flack from my fellow movie buffs for not seeing this classic, so this June I have decided it was time–before I turn 24–to pop my dinosaur cherry. Plus I’m trash for Jeff Goldblum, so win/win.

I need to watch the Sabrina show so much! It’s been on my Netflix queue for what seems like ages.
Also, I stopped Buffy at like season 4 for some unknown reason. I need to pick that up as well.

This is such a great idea! Why don’t more people do this? I have so many shows to watch after my exams finish tomorrow so I might join you in having a TBW post. I think I’ve watched 1 episode of Sabrina and life got in the way, so I’ll definitely be catching up on that soon. I’ve heard so much about the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and I think I might watch that next month too. There’s just to many shows to watch. I’ve watched The Perfect Date and it was enjoyable albeit predictable. Hopefully you’ll set the trend and more of these posts pop up.

OMG SAM! I’ve watched so many of these things. I really enjoyed Sabrina, it was so dark and amazing ugh it was really good! American Gods and Sex Education are both really good shows! But please be aware American Gods is like the weirdest show ever, like there are just so many scenes within the 2 season I went wtf at aha. The Marvelous Mrs Maisel is a really funny show! Hopefully, you enjoy it as much as I did!
I actually recently watched The Perfect Date, It was definitely a cute film to watch. Also, HOW HAVENT YOU SEEN JURASSIC PARK! If you are trash for Jeff Goldblum then HOW! I’m just so surprised….like wow. But honestly, these films are awesome! I definitely preferred one over the other two in the trilogy. Hope you enjoy them too!

YAS! I am always down for a good WTF moment(s)!
LOL I KNOW! Growing up my dad gave me and my brother two options, we could be either allowed to watch Jaws or Jurassic Park–not both. We chose Jaws cause it was on TV at the time. Now I just havent gotten to watching it lmao. BUT I SHALL SOON!

I can’t wait for you to finish Buffy. Then I can talk about it with you for days. I know it’s unpopular opinion but I actually like Chilling Adventure of Sabrina more than the 90s show.
I don’t watch many films but I did watch that Noah Centineo movie. I wish I could say I liked it more but that could be just me.

I meannnnn if you want a lil bit of extra pressure to finish certain books (or *cough cough* ARCs *cough cough*) posting your TBR might help with that? 😜
omg yes I keep meaning to start American Gods, because I loved Ricky Whittle in The 100 (#RIPLincoln) and I’ve heard great things about the show! (hoping they do as well with Good Omens, because the trailers make it look like a great time)
tbh I wasn’t blown away by A Quiet Place, but then again I watched it with friends with all the lights on because that’s the only way I can survive horror 😅 it’s a beautiful movie, though, and the premise is definitely fascinating.
I actually got my philosophy/pop culture class to watch Every Day as part of our exploration of personal identity (mind/body problem) and it was cute! also I’m pretty sure the guy from Detective Pikachu (yknow, the lead who isn’t Ryan Reynolds) is in it?
honestly I liked Jurassic World more than Jurassic Park (probably partly because it’s more modern, and well also Chris Pratt) but yup, it’s a classic you gotta watch it!

I think I’ll be giving the new Sabrina a pass, but it’s cool seeing the girl as Sabrina in something like this as the last thing I saw her in was Mad Men and she was so young!
    But honestly…girl….
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets…I love it, no shame lol. Also made me want to read its comic!
And I am Jurassic Park trash. Seriously. Hit me up when you see it lol

What an amazing TBW you have, and YES PLEASE WATCH MORE BUFFY! Season 2 gets so good and I know this season’s big bad arc will be your thing!!!
I also still need to get around to watching Chilling Adventures and American Gods, the latter will probably never happen because I don’t subscribe to Starz but whatever.
A Quiet Place is SUCH A GOOD MOVIE! Honestly I was so impressed when I saw it in theater last year. I hope you enjoy it!
