Mini-Reviews Monday #4

Mini-Reviews Monday is a monthly series in which I attempt to get caught up on reviews in bulk. These reviews are a highlight reel instead of an in-depth look into my time reading these novels. If you would like an in-depth version of my review, let me know in the comments!

Uh yeah so this one was a dud. This read, was a buddy read with the wonderful bean Soph @ Bookwyrming Thoughts and it was…a time to say the least. Everything in this story was so insta-love and the fake relationship trope (my favorite trope next to enemies to lovers) was the fakest fake relationship I have ever read. I think the fake relationship lasted maybe six pages at best, before they decided to make things official and “real”. Yeah, not a fan was I.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love me a good insta-love trope–I mean I stan Twilight for heaven’s sake– but I like instant love when it’s done well and sadly this didn’t make it into the done well category. The reasoning behind different actions that were suppose to push the plot forward, weren’t thought or fleshed out. I found myself having to listen to the audiobook of it to get through certain parts, because I kept getting sucked out of the story while reading it. I couldn’t really relate to either of our main characters because they felt like paper dolls instead of real people.

A little rocky at first, but I was hooked after the first few chapters! I was given an exclusive early excerpt by Netgalley for my honest review and after reading it I can say that The Priory of the Orange Tree is a promise of a tale that will leave you breathless and in awe, as fantasy meets adventure. I am honestly so excited to see how the rest of this story plays out when it is released in February!

A super quick read, it was hot and spicy, but like I said–super quick. I was almost annoyed at how insta-love-esque the entire book was. It was not even a week together and they are already professing their undying love for one another. I love a good insta-love story if done well, and if I’m honest, I don’t think this one hit the mark. Everything was fast paced and nothing felt organic. The BDSM was super bland and the characters were one dimensional at best. Both Olivia and Noah didn’t have a backstory that translated well to their current life and I felt that they just lived and revolved around their trope, instead of the trope revolving around them and who they are. With that said, I had a super hard time connecting to the characters and believing their struggles.
