The Genre Book Tag

Samantha is doing a tag?! WHAT HAS THE WORLD COME TO?!?!?!?!?!

Happy Thursday Story Tellers! And for all my American friends out here in the U.S. of A, HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!! I thought today, while I’m in the air flying to Mississippi for friendsgiving,  I’d do a bookish tag, since its been a hot minute and a biscuit since the last time I did one of these bad boys.

I was tagged by the literal definition of epicness– Jamsu @ Jamsu Dreams! Thank you so much for tagging me Jamsu! Honestly guys, if you haven’t followed her yet you are completely missing out on a TIME!!!!  I swear you wont regret a moment!

What is your favourite genre?

My favorite genre is a toss-up between Romance and Science Fiction.

Who is your favourite author from that genre?

Oof, I honestly can’t choose one author, I love so so so so so many!!!

What is it about the genre that keeps pulling you back?

I grew up watching my Mom read romance and my Dad watching sci-fi shows with me and my siblings; and when I got older I started to read them for myself. I grew so much as a person from these genres as they helped shape my worldview and who I am today.

Science Fiction has always shown me and taught me to question societal norms and the preconceived notions that society and the world have told me to believe. SF gave me an outlet to freely think without worry of judgement or being wrong–It gave me a chance to ask questions when the world told me not too. Romance, on the other hand, gave me a chance to dream and dream big–it allowed me to escape reality and gave me the chance to explore what femininity looked like for me

So whenever I read one of these genres it feels like a coming home moment, especially when the two intertwine with one another.

What is the book that started your love for that genre?

For this question, my love for SF and romance didn’t begin from a book, but rather from watching TV shows with my family, like Star Trek, Doctor Who, and movies like Dune, Fools Rush In, and Twilight (honestly could we have a tag where I didn’t mention Twilight?). So, to pin point a book that began it all, would be impossible because a book didn’t do it for me.

If you had to recommend at least 1 book from your favourite genre to a non-reader/someone looking to start reading this genre, what book would you choose and why?

Illuminae By Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff, solely because I firmly believe it is a great way to break into the Science Fiction genre with your head still on. Romance, really depends on the person to be honest, and what they are into, but and easy one that will edge you on in to this warm pool of love would be anything by Jennifer L. Armenrtout or Teagan Hunter. 10/10 would high key recommend.

Why do you read?

I read because it gives me a chance to escape my reality and enter a new one. I can be anything I want to be, live different lives and gain different perspectives of the world. I read to be a better human–and ultimately a badass version of myself.

I Tag:

Fatina @ The Infinity Words

Sheyvel @ Fragile Broken Feels

Becca @ BeccaLeighanne

Bree @ Falling For Romance

And anyone who wants to do this Tag, consider yourself TAGGED!
