T5W: Auto-Buy Scifi and Fantasy Authors
Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly book meme that was created and moderated by Lainey but is now hosted by Sam (not me). If you want to find out more about this group/feature or if you wanna join in on all this fun, you can visit the Goodreads group here!
Well hell there! Thanks for stopping by!
I know I have been MIA lately (sorry about that), life has just been super crazy and I find myself coming home and falling straight to sleep. So reading and writing have been null and void for the last couple days. BUT! things are settling back down again and I’m excited to get things back to rolling!
Enough about all that, let’s get into this weeks topic! This week is all about authors! But not just any authors, our top auto-buy SFF authors. Which if anyone knows me super well, I absolutely L.I.V.E. for Science Fiction/ Fantasy, that and Romance (sue me). So, when I saw this weeks topic was going to be our favorite authors, I squealed like a banshee who just got a face lift.
5. J. R. R. Tolkien
Let’s be honest, the dude is literally the best at SFF. Lord of the Rings? Yeah, THAT happened. The Hobbit? That too. Like my man, Tolkien, has some serious skills that if he was still alive I would have him on auto-buy. But I can’t…cause he is dead.
4. Sarah J. Maas
She is Queen. All hail the queen.
3. V.E. Schwab
Now Schwab was tied really close to my number two spot, but ultimately I really couldn’t decide so I stuck both into a jar and drew them out. So technically three and two are basically the same level of awesome, okay? Okay.
In all honesty, Schwab completely blows my mind. From her descriptions to her action sequences, I am enamored. Her character building and development is so distinguished and well thought out, that I can’t even begin to tell you! I love her imagination and am always excited to see just how far she will go in a scene.
2. Leigh Bardugo
This woman is a majestic unicorn that must be protected at all costs! Like seriously, she is the queen of SFF and colliding it with amazing diverse characters, and let’s not get me started on the A1 steak sauce representation she has in her novels. ESPECIALLY The Six of Crows duology. I mean. C’mon y’all. I’d sell my second child for the things she writes. It’s fine.
1. Laini Taylor
This woman could literally publish her grocery list or the steps she takes to wash her hair and I would one-click/auto buy the crap out of that list. The way Laini builds her worlds, develops her characters, and overall tells the stories she tells–just blows my mind. Plus, the stories she paints are so well written and just that GOOD, that no one can properly describe them. Like I’m still trying to figure out how to explain what Daughter of Smoke and Bone is about to my friends!
What authors are on auto-buy for you? Let me know!
