I have grown a huge love for buddy reading and read along in the past year, and I’m so lucky to been able to jump/tag along with some friends from Instagram to read the gem that is A Caribbean Heiress In Paris by Adriana Herrera! A story that is both beautiful and enticing–come on a journey with me to Europe where like rum and scotch–love abounds.

The Exposition Universelle is underway, drawing merchants from every corner of the globe. Luz Alana Heith-Benzan set sail from Santo Domingo armed with three hundred casks of rum, her two best friends and one simple rule: under no circumstances is she to fall in love.
The City of Light is where Luz Alana will expand Caña Brava, the rum business her family built over three generations. It’s a mission that’s taken on new urgency after her father’s untimely death and the news that her trust fund won’t be released until she marries. But buyers and shippers alike are rude and dismissive; they can’t imagine doing business with a woman…never mind a woman of color.
From her first tempestuous meeting with James Evanston Sinclair, Earl of Darnick, Luz Alana is conflicted. Why is this man—this titled Scottish man—so determined to help her? And why, honestly, is he so infuriatingly charming?
All Evan Sinclair ever wanted was to find a purpose away from his father’s dirty money and dirtier politics. Ignoring his title, he’s built a whiskey brand that’s his biggest—and only—passion. That is, until he’s confronted with a Spanish-speaking force of nature who turns his life upside down.
Evan quickly suspects he’ll want Luz Alana with him forever. Every day with her makes the earl wish for more than her magnificent kisses or the marriage of convenience that might save them both. But Luz Alana sailed for Paris with her eyes on liquor, money and new beginnings. She wasn’t prepared for love to find her.
Book 1: A Caribbean Heiress in Paris
“This was what Luz Alana reduced him to: prayer and hyperventilation.”
Hold your whiskey ladies and hand me the rum! Adriana Herrera brings the spice of the Caribbean to Europe in her new historical romance. A Caribbean Heiress In Paris, follows Luz Alana, a biracial business woman from the islands, into the bustling streets of Europe as she tries to make a place for herself and her family’s rum business. Unsurprisingly she is faced with challenges of being a female of color in the business world. With no one wanting to do business with her, she has reached her wit’s end, luckily (or unluckily) fate hands her drink of fine scotch by the name of James Evanston Sinclair—the Earl of Darnick and the scotch distiller who can’t seem to get her out of his head.
Y’all I was enamored with this marriage of convenience story. Having only read Herrera’s Sapphic Santa novella, Her Night With Santa, I went in thinking this would be something quick and dirty. But I was given so much more. Herrera’s writing in this story was so well done and the research alone that she must have done has me wanting to give her a standing ovation! The Characters were fun, interesting and compelling as the story progressed, and I absolutely adored reading such strong female characters. Luz Alana and her family are the kind of people I would want around me when I’m marrying a hunk of burning love such as Evan.
The only thing I took issue with was just how rushed and quickly wrapped up the ending was. I felt like it was so rushed that it fell anticlimactic and I wasn’t fully able to bask in the development of not only our main couple but also the development of the story overall. Other than that this story was fun, entertaining, and entirely delightful. I’m super stoked to read what happens next! Bring me more Las Leonas por favor!
