March’s haul was ridiculously huge and my bank account was super not happy with me due to my grabby fingers. Because of this, I forced myself to go on a book ban for the month of April. My main goal for this ban was to get back on track with my finances and to finally pay off my credit card; which is something I have been struggling to get in check for a long ass time now. However, whenever I set my mind up to do something– come hell or high water, ya girl is getting it done.
The Rules of the ban:
- Can only buy/get books if they are free ($0.00) unless its a gift from friends/family then by all means be blessed Sam. (excluding pre-orders)
- Ban can only be lifted once I paid off my credit card.
I am pleased to announce that near the tail end of the month I did indeed complete my goal and was able to lift this ban right in time for Avengers: Endgame. Now you are probably wondering what Endgame has to do with my book haul that should be small because I was on a ban for the first 25 days. Well, shit happened in the movie and I was an emotional ball, and when Sam is an emotional ball she waddles to her closest Half Price Book Store and does a little bookish retail therapy. #sorrynotsorry
As always, before I get into the bounty of which my kindle and shelves cry out to in joy, let me preface this with I am a super frugal and hella cheap person. Most–if not all– of my purchases were deals from bookbub.com, amazon, audible, etc. which amounted to many of them being free, as well as through my carefully thought out monthly book budget as I have placed reading and supporting authors and the arts a priority when planning my personal finances. With that being said, take a look at my walk of shamelessness.

Are any of these on your TBRs, or have you already read them? If so, what did you think?
You read picked up some awesome titles Sam! I need to go on a book buying ban soon. All the book releases and pre-orders this month killed my wallet.
I feel that on a spiritual level. Lmao
Pretty pretty books…tbh I do not blame you with having listing that ban after Endgame. Books were the only comfort after saying goodbye to that phase.
Endgame left me bleeding and gutted, i almost about called into work lmao
I went to the midnight showing and booked the day off the next two days off work. I knew I was going to be a mess.
Digging your haul, I miss HPB for a good retail therapy fix! Your HP books look great and heeeeey I got One World Kill as well, still haven’t read it either…I’ll get there, eventually!! Can’t wait to see what you think of The Poet X Audiobook!
HPB is heaven lmao, idk what I would do without it lmao!
Okay, so this is interesting. I read Smitten by the Brit and I really enjoyed it. Now, I’m reading Getting Hot With the Scot and I’m struggling a little bit more to get into the characters. It’s funny how we apparently have different views on these books 💚
Indeed it is! I hope you enjoy her series more than I did!
Moving to a country where all the books in the bookstores are in German helped my bank account immensely! ha ha. I have been able to buy so few, and forced to borrow almost everything. It actually has worked pretty well
And congrats on reading 13 books in April – great job!
“When Sam is an emotional ball she waddles to her closest Half Price Book Store and does a little bookish retail therapy.” MOOD Sam, mood. Although, bookish retail therapy for me still means making sure the bank account is happy so I’m not sitting out in the streets minus degree. (Although in the future I may consider bookish retail therapy. Um, actually, I might do it in about a year from now when I actually graduate from college because wow goodbye college and tuition bills.)
Also I think I read Come Back to Me?????? Maybe I did??? Maybe I skimmed it at the bookstore and completely forgot about the book??? Oops. But hey, 13 books is amazinggggggg!
SAYONARA COLLEGE BILLS! HELLO BOOKSTORE!
I shall make a tshirt of this for you for your graduation.
lmao, it would be amazing if that is what I read this month. Most if not all of these are books I read last year from the library that
I saw cheap so i got. lmao.
you did fab tho bc YOU PAID OFF YOUR CARD!! v proud of you.
ive read one word kill, it was okay, not blown away by it as its v heavy w the science which is where it lost me a lil
THANK YOU!!!!!
And oof, I’ll take note of that when I get around to reading it! Thanks for the heads up!
I mean.. 37 books for under a hundred dollars is pretty good. I applaud you and you should be proud of yourself. I want to buy 7 books for 100 euros so you’re doing way better than me
